Malfunctioning Cruise Control

The cruise control on my '01 CL-S isn't quite right. The on/off switch works fine and the light on the dash is responsive to it; however, when I push set cruise the light on the dash comes on but the car just coasts and doesn't get power to maintain the speed. I'm thinking it's the cruise control actuator and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there's any fix besides replacing the actuator. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Well, it was neither. Worked on it a bit today and tightened the linkage -- it was a little loose. Also put power directly to the actuator and it responded as it should. The magnetic clutch clicked and it "locked" the position of the throttle cable. Both to no avail though, it still doesn't hold speed when cruise is set -- just coasts down under 25 mph and then cancels by default. I'm not real sure what else to check at this point other than the cruise control module under the driver's side dash. But I've never heard of a case where one of those goes bad??
