Hmmm...there must be a 2nd module or something for that. Ironically, was troubleshooting something and had sound for my music coming only from rear speakers...when I took a call the front speakers worked for HFL so it's gotta be a different module that it uses. Sorry I don't have an answer but please keep us posted!
#245
Well I finallly got around to trying to install my new module, when I took the old one down I realized its different then the one I got when I ordered it
Here is pictures of the one that is in the car
The one I got when I ordered is the same as pictured above in this thread with the green connector.
I have a 07 TL with Navi, why the difference and what is the best way to resolve it?

Just ordered mine from OEMacuraparts. I will be anxious to get this thing working again as I've been HFL-less for about a year and a half. I've had it disconnected this whole time since I have the "booting up"/battery drain issue. I'm not sure about this delay box item though. It sounds as though its a fail safe so the battery does not drain if the HFL screws up and leeches the battery to death. Anyway, my price was 173ish. 185 shipped. Fingers crossed!
Just doing a little follow up. It was raining like crazy outside when I got my new unit delivered today but that didnt stop me. I ran out to my car with a small flathead and a 10-in-1 screwdriver. Had the new unit installed in 5 minutes. Working like a charm for now, lets hope it keeps going that way!
Let me tell you, after not having this working for over a year and a half now, it felt exhilerating to hear those beeps again!! haha!

UPDATE with GREAT NEWS... Ended up waiting until last week to get my HFL fixed. I have been out of town and moving to St. Louis - Uhg, I hate cold weather but work calls!
Anyway, as we all know the price of the unit has come down so my grand total on my HFL repair was $56!!!!!!!
This thing works flawlessly now.

Can someone confirm if this is the new part number?
39770-SEP-A02ZA
Disregard the last letter as it's the color code it seems. $181 at acuraoemparts.
A quick review of my alternative solution that I returned. I ordered the Parrot mki9200 in hopes of having the bluetooth in my car working again. Well that thing is junk for the TL. It has a lot of static and when placing or taking a call the rear spearkers would buzz really bad and you can't control it. Also everytime you go into a menu selection there's a lound thump sound from the speakers which you can't control so I got fed up and disassembled everything and shipped it back. Now I'm trying to figure if this $180 part is going to last. If anyone can confirm the right part number so I can order that would be great, thanks!

I want to say that YES, that is it...
find vendor and member Tim from oemacuraparts.com and ask him. He found the right one for me...it was $190 shipped I think from oemacuraparts.com and it was plug and play, included the whole upper piece in gray and has worked flawlessly since install.

Yep, just got back from the dealer and picked up the part for $181 was listed at $220. It included the whole trim, worked right away. Now the tricky question is this. When you dial a number or contact on the iphone 4 and it's saying the audio source is the HFL you still hear your music, it doesn't switch to the phone. Anyone know how to deal with that? Pretty much I want to be able to dial out of my phone or a contact that's not stored in the car. Suggestiosn?
#254
^^^ Just answered my own question, when dialing from a phone and the hfl is selected as the source, push the call button and say "transfer" however it will say no call in progress until the person has picked up the phone on the iphone 4.

I'm new here, but I'm glad that I found this forum because the dealership I've been working with (particularly 1 serviceman) seems to think that the problems with my car are very unusual despite this thread showing that it is a common problem. Forgive me for my wordiness, but I'd like to share my experience & get advice as well, and hopefully, save others from the headache I went through. Back in '09 & '10, I was having lots of BATTERY DRAIN issues (recharged & replaced 3 or 4 times) with my '06 TL. When I brought it to the dealership, they couldn't diagnose the problem. Car wouldn't start whenever I returned from a 2-4 day trip somewhere. I was told that it was probably because my aftermarket batteries didn't have enough power. I finally decided to change my battery at the dealership to test their theory. The problem recurred again soon after so I brought the car back and they finally diagnosed that my bluetooth was not shutting off & that it was draining my battery (drawing 200miliamps). I had to have my bluetooth disabled to prevent battery drain. I wasn't using my bluetooth at all so I'm not sure how that happened. I never even linked my phone to it. I might have used it a little when I initially bought the car, but I hadn't used it at least since '07. They said it was outside warranty BY THE TIME THEY DIAGNOSED IT so I was out of luck. I contacted acura & was transferred to Handsfree group who sounded like they could do something about it, but apparently they can't because they are not related to Acura. I've had my HFL disabled for about a year & decided that I should have it fixed in case I wanted to sell my car or use the HFL eventually.
I have a few questions:
- Is there a certain model number HFL that is defective? Or a group of cars from a certain area (mine was purchased in CA)?
- Does anyone know why this is not recalled since it seems like a widespread issue? It certainly is a safety issue if it is affecting my battery life.
- Are there any class action lawsuits pending?
- For the people who were able to get a "good will" replacement (jamesL5385, Takata 18), was there a certain number to call or representative you spoke to?
- Is anyone who got a replacement having battery drain issues?
I haven't called acura corporate to follow up, but I was able to talk to a manager who said they'd be willing to replace it for $57 or $58 (apparently, the price is lower now & they are giving me a discount). I know it is not much, but it really bothers me to have to pay for something that seems like a manufacturing defect & something that I'm not sure if I'll even use. After all, I've already had to pay for all the battery replacements too, not to mention all the time going back & forth to the dealership.
I'm going to try calling acura to see if something else can be done. I wished they would own up to this problem. Based on this experience & all the unprofessional service people I've interacted with, I'm pretty sure this is my last acura.

^ what dealership told you that they would replace it for $57-$58? At that price i would jump on it.
To answer one of your questions, it seeems like these bletooth modules tend to go up anywhere from 3-6 years from what i've read. I dont believe that there is a certain model number that is defective.

Also, keep in mind that this was one of the first cars with bluetooth so the technology probably wasn't fully tested for longevity.
Does it suck, yes. But it goes...I was more mad about my cracked dash. Your only saving grace IMO, is that you have documented having to replace the battery and the amount of times you had to go in for them to finally figure out the problem. I would use THAT as your leverage, not the fact that it is a problem that shouldn't have happened. Honestly, this is originally an $800 repair...so for $58 they are pretty much doing it for free. Worth the fight? up to you...I would just pay sixty bucks and call it a day.

As for $80 that is a great deal. However the replacement is not $700-800 like it use to be. Like I said, I just bought the part from my dealer at $181. As for certain models I think there are certain models and a newer version out. The old one I had stated a specific month and date and 2005 year on it along with the time that it was made I'm pretty sure! Then the one that I bought yesterday had a date from last month, september something 2011 and a time, and the old one had a software or version number where as this one is blank. Even the part numbers changed if you folks kept up with the reading on this thread, I think there obviously had to be a change. I was worried about battery issues too once I installed it but I've been running errands yesterday and haven't noticed anything.

Actually, I read the entire thread, as I had this problem recently too. My TL is from end of 2003 and did not have the date stamped. And yes, I agree that the part is only $180 (since I am the responding on who to contact to confirm part number but price sounded right) but was quoted $400 for the repair at a 50% goodwill from Acura not even 3 months ago. So yes, unfortunately, they are still trying to make this an $800 repair for the ignorant consumer.
Again, the dash SHOULD not crack, the bluetooth should not have a problem. But at $56 for the repair, would you bother fighting it?

I ordered it and hopefully in a few days I'll have the correct part and return the other one I ordered.

2004 TL HFL info
My HFL on my 2004 TL/Navi has been down for about 6 months. I tried the capacitor option (as noted earlier in this thread) without success. However, I just ordered and installed the 2005 replacement part ordered from o e m a _ _ _ a parts and it is working like a champ. YMMV but I am very glad to have HFL back for under $200.

i just ordered the part from AcuraPartsWarehouse for my 06 TL NAV. I'm also going to have my old board shipped out to my electronics friend to see if he can solder on a new cap. I was going to try it myself, but then started seeing recient reviews of it not working after.

Pairing
I'm having pairing issues with my HFL system... I had someone acutally replace the cap on the board and I'm still having pairing issues. Should this have fixed this problem? Could the cap been put on the wrong way and it still be causing this issue?

IDK if anyone has successful resuscitated the HFL with capacitor replacement yet.

i took a small flat head screw driver and popped out the sunroof switch. then got my hand behind the light assembly and gently pulled down. then disconnect the sunroof and light switches, then you'll easily see the 4 screws holding up the HFL bezel.

HFL Not Working
I am new to the forum and I am glad that I was able to find it. I am having problems with my 2006 Acura TL. Recently, my battery died; after replacing it, I was unable to pair my phone to my car. After taking my car to the Acura dealership for service, they wanted to charge me $800 to replace it. Of course I did not pay for the service. After reading the postings, I am unsure about the steps in replacing it. Please tell me if the 2006 has two parts to purchase or just one.

Wondering if purchasing a new hfl box will fix my problem. Everything works fine, but the other people hear their echo and its bad. Wonder if the new box suppose with new firmware update like others have mentioned in the post will fix my problem.

Ivyleaf...more important than your year is...do you have navigation? If not, no, you only need that ONE part.
Round 3...it sounds to me like it may be a phone issue OR maybe a mic issue. Like, your phone is providing sound at the same time as the mic is...instead of the phone totally switching the input to the mic.
sorry, I'm guessing...

Im not sure if its the phone or not, I doubt it thought because I can put the phone in the console or even in the truck and still have the echo. I think its just coming mainly from the center speaker.
