I was at BMW NA last friday for the event they hold once a year. They let the BMW CCA members come to the headquaters and they tell us whats goin on, etc. THey showed us some spy pics and they just laughed. Most are photoshops of other BMWs with minor alterations to make it look like what the artist thinks the car will look like.

They clearly stated though that the next M3 will be called the M3 (and of course have 2 doors). The reason is due to mainly the fact that the denotation M3 is way too popular to screw with.

Whatever the outcome, this means more confusion for customers, after the numbered denotation shenanigans.

The article was also confirming the use of a 4.0 liter V8 making 400HP and a 4.4 liter V8 making 440HP for the CSL version.
They were never gonna do this. It was merely a rumor and its good they didn't as it would be too confusing.

Also, to a post before, the M6 will have 500 HP they will use the same engine as the M5, why give the M6 550 hp and not the M5

The new M3 will definetly be V8 but I doubt we will get the CSL again. As the BMW porduct manager said to me when I asked him, he's like its a 90K dollar M3 with 14 more hp.

Don't believe everything magazines publish.

in the past, most of those BMW "photoshops" have came true.

THe M6 wont get the same engine as the M5. The M5 engine will be 5 liters and 500 HP and the M6 engine will be 5.5 liters and 550 HP.

Again, its the same engine. So if they tune it, why wouldn't the M5 get the extra 50 hp as well?? The super sedan is where the major horsepower war is right now so why would the M6 get more power?

Well, even if the spy pics aren't 100% acurate, they still give you a sense of what the car will look like...I mean, I saw the spy pics for the new 7 series and I saw the production version...and I hated them both. I saw the spy pics for the new 5 series and I saw the production version...and I hated them both. I've now seen the spy pics from the new 3 series and my thought on this design isn't much different than the that of the 7 and 5...so it stands to reason I'm not going to like the 3 series.
DAMN YOU BANGLE!!!...but hopefully, this is the last design we'll see from him.

Automobile mag noted of different displacement as well in its latest report. That's why I wrote the above. It's the latest info I read in any reliable source so...

BMW NA? Is that BMW North America? If yes, I doubt it. I do not think BMW has released any official info on the M6. Have you seen anything I have not?

The M5 and M6 will have different HP ratings and now, as I wrote, I read that the displacement will also be different. Why would the M6 get more? It makes perfect sense. The M6 is the coupe. Coupes are always sportier/faster/quicker than sedans. Supposedly.

BMW North America, yes. Like I said in another thread, BMW NA holds a meeting every year for the NJ/NY/CT BMW Car Club of America Chapters. They feed us, then they give s brief overview of whats gonna happen in the next year, then they open it up for Q & A. The General Product Manager for BMW NA, the guy who controls all the models, said to expect them to have the same engine.

Like I said, don't believe everything that gets published. Even the reliable mags can be wrong. They guy (product Manager) said that people come up to him and are like "Oh, cool, you're building this new car, etc. etc." and he's like "No we're(BMW) not," to which the person would reply "Yes you are, I read it WHATEVER magazine." I used to do it to, but after going to these meetings at the headquarters, I take everything I read with a grain of salt.

Sigh...

Technically, BMW is making astounding breakthroughs and awesome achievements...

Aesthetically, BMW (ButterfaceMotorenWerks) has been shitting on blueprint paper, smoothing out some rough spots and putting their badge on it...specially the interiors. I think the X3 is the worst of them all.

I agree, it's pretty boring. But that picture is not the real thing. Just a PS with current M3 wheels.

BMW's new styling is pretty different. Most people do not like it.

I like BMW, but I'm also not very hip on their new styles I do like the new 7 series /w the big ass (19 or 20") wheels. The interior is gorgeous! and *I* would like i-drive.

But my heart is with the older 740I with the dished wheels for style...

OK, I cant tell you that's not reliable. We'll know in less than a year or so. So did he say that the HP output will also be the same? Or just the displacement?

I surely am aware of mags and the fact that they are wrong from time to time. I just "report" here what I read. Most of the times, reliable sources are correct. So it's worth mentioning what they report every time I read about those reports.

Here is the complete content of that same Autospies article:

---------------------

Here's the latest rundown on the next generation 3-series - - Source: Autospies

Dear 001,

Here's the latest intelligence on the next generation 3-series:

o The 4 and 2 series name designations will not be used.
o iDrive will be available in conjunction with the navigation system only, similar to the 1 series.
o Dynamic Drive will most likely not be available.
o The car will feature a central computer system that can be updated with new features throughout the car's life cycle.
o Airbag, seat and door sensors are connected, enabling the computer system to detect the size and position of all passengers and to deploy airbags as needed based on that information.
o Next generation xDrive will be available for the sedan and wagon.
o The convertible will not have a retractable hardtop.
o An improved gearbox titled CSG (Central Synchronized Gearbox - similar to Audi's DSG) will be available at the end of '06. Unlike Audi's double clutch system, it will feature a single clutch that can operate significantly faster than current ones.
o New, lighter generation of inline 6 Valvetronic engines is in the works.
o Two turbo engines are presently planned: an i6-ti with 333HP and a V8-ti with 450HP that will not be used for the 3 series.
o The various 3 series models can be produced at any of BMW's five plants.

Introduction dates:

o Sedan (E90) - IAA 2005
o Wagon (E91) - Geneva 2006
o Coupι (E92) - Paris 2006
o Convertible (E93) - Detroit 2007

Final engine line-up:

o 316i, 122 HP
o 318i, 150 HP
o 320i, 177 PS
o 323i, 204 HP
o 325i, 231 HP
o 330i, 265 HP
o 330ti, 333 HP
o M3, 401 HP
o 318d, 122 HP
o 320d, 163 HP
o 325d, 204 HP
o 330d, 238 HP

Best regards,

Hans Gruber

Now I am sure that the number denotations will continue to be different than the acutal displacement. Here we saw that with the 323 model.

Here is what happens in Europe:

The 316 used to be a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder but for the past few years it's actually a 1.8 liter 4 cyl. engine (115HP currently).

The 318d is a 2 liter 4 cyl. diesel engine in Europe (115HP also).

The 318i is a 2 liter 4 cyl. gas engine making 143HP.

The 320d is also a 2 liter diesel 4 cyl. engine making 150HP (so because it makes more power than the 2 liter in the 318, they change the denotation to 320).

The 320i now is a 2.2 liter 6 cyl. engine making 170HP.

The 325i is a 2.5 liter 6 cyl. engine making 192 HP (probably the same engine as the one offered here in the USA).

The 330d is a 3 liter diesel 6 cyl. engine making 204HP.

And the 330i is the same engine as the one offered here having a rating of 231HP in Europe.

So:

The question now is, how the above denotations will be affected. I am guessing that the 330 will not be 3 liters large. It's got to be larger than that. Maybe 3.3 liters or more. Otherwise it will be screaming to 7200 rpm to make 265HP. Same with the 325. I bet the 325 is the current 3.0 liter engine. Note the EXACT same HP rating of that engine as the 3 liter gas engine from Europe. I am also guessing that the 320 engine is of 2.5 liters of displacement and the 325 of 2.7 liters.

The 330ti must be the infamous turbo engine. I bet that's 3.2 liters large. Notice it makes the same exact power as the current M3 in the USA (Euro version M3 is rated at 343HP).

The M3 engine is probably the 4.0 liter V8.

Looks like AutoSpies posted some new pics of the 3 series ... they don't have the f'ed up rear where the tail light doesn't line up ... Looks 100 times better imho:

http://www.autospies.com/article/ind...&categoryId=12

Coupe looks nice too ... Would be interested to see what the M3 coupe will look like.

The coupe doesn't look bad actually. Still not sure about the sedan.

Wonder how much more expensive the new models will be?
