well, the S600 has something calls a twin turbo V12 thats putting out more horsepower than i would know what to do with. awd is pretty nice but something about having over 500hp just makes me want the benz more.

Nice car, and good power level. However, I really don't like the grill!

Gee, I guess I won't be buying one! :P

are you talking about an upcoming S600?

I'm asking because the current S600 has a 5.5-litre V12: http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container...odelCode=S600V

woah, my bad, i thought for sure they had more HP than the AMG models. either way, the Benz hauls ass like no other. a few simple (yet hella expensive) mods and that thing is easily over 500.

again, my mistake.

and again, MB > Audi, eventhough i love the grill look of the A8, the Benz is so awesome. i cant get over my mom's E500, ive driven a couple CL's and while I did love the A8 interior and this new look, im more moved by the three pointed star.

that is all.

Audi W-12 A8

Audi W-12 A8 Bows
Marty Padgett

Audi's record-setting sales year in 2003 is just the foundation for bigger, better years ahead, says Len Hunt, Audi's chief U.S. executive. Final sales numbers for 2003 weren't released, but Hunt says the new A8 sedan is a big contributor to Audi's strong numbers from last year, with the new model turning in sales 170 percent stronger in the month of December. The new A8L, powered by a 6.0-liter 450-hp version of Volkswagen's corporate W-12 engine, should help to boost the big sedan's sales even further. All-wheel drive will be standard on the most powerful Audi when it goes on sale in Germany in February and in the U.S. before the end of the year.

It's called corporate identity ... that's the new face of Audi.

well being as it looks pretty damn similar to phaeton... id say they just took phaetons (now old) design and updated it. i like it!

but the phaeton is still built better... looks pretty much the same (i still like phaetons front passenger area better) audis rear is better tho.

but exterior... other than the grill... same shit.

either way... its not killin nothing as the money from either car is going to the same guys pockets.

but... think of it this way. this car is made by the same company... but produced in greater mass at an inferior factory.

VW stance is that there is no profit margin in the phaeton... and it is an image builder. a point maker.

but audi obviously has to bring home some bacon with the A8, it is audis bread and butter...

besides lacking many of the gadgets of the phaeton, where else do you think their making up cost? gotta be somewhere.... especially when their certainly losing even more money on those aluminum body panels.

see my point guys? its amazing how much your opinions change over a BADGE.

this IS A PHAETON. built in a crappier factory, with more cust cutting.

lol

but cuz it has that audi badge, your immediate sentiment is to drool. without even thinking about the pros and cons of this vs whatever.

not saying thats wrong.

just saying your lemmings

This car isn't missing any of the gadgets of the Phaeton, which is why I like it. The Phaeton doesn't have some of the gadgets on this baby, like active cruise control, adaptive headlights, led lights, etc.

I hate to tell you, without the A8 there would be no Phaeton. I don't care how nice the factory is, as long as it produces a quality car. The Phaeton is a nice car though. I personally think it won't sell here. American luxury buyers are concerned with prestige and performance and the A8 is the better choice to satisfy those needs.

So a VW exec had to sell the idea of creating a 80k car that they would make no profit on and that would not sell

Doubt he is still around

He isn't. Peich pushed the idea through to go out with a bang when he retired a few years back.

There is no way in hell that the VW Board is going to approve a vehicle that is intended to lose money. This makes no sense from a business standpoint and only an idiot would allow it to happen. That being said the Phaeton was intended to be a "halo" car for VW. The car needs to sell for it to be noticed.

The 6.0 is going to start just around $115k.....so give or take $15-$18k less than the S600 (base as well).

You can get the 6.0 without the center rear console.

cant argue this point any further as ive made it.

go read Piechs comments yourself.

i think it makes perfect sense... its to develop an image that has already started to work. Touareg.

Next Gen. Audi S8 News **Unveiled (page 1)**

There has been a lot of controversy even over the existance of a next gen. S8. I am now reading (loose) rumors of the fact that there will be an S8 and it will also (like the S6) carry a V10 engine. The engine is loosely based on the Gallardo engine, but substantially different as the Gallardo engine is too large to fit into the engine bays of those cars.

I've been reading that there is a good chance it won't be a V10, due to the fact that it would steal some of the W12s thunder.......especially if it comes in cheaper.
