Odometer and Trip Meter Stopped Working
So just today, I have noticed that both my odometer and trip meter stopped working. I have tried to reset the trip meter to see if that made any difference, and nothing. I have tried to reset the maintenace required indicator to see if that made any difference, and still nothing. I listened closely to see if there were any noises, and could hear nothing. What could possibly be wrong. My speedometer needle that register my speed works normally, and so does everything else. Thanks in advance for your help!

Bump... Anyone have any ideas? I thought the odometer works with the speedometer, but my speedometer works just fine, minus the odometer. I know my speed is registered by the speed sensor, but what about the odometer? Could it be my speedometer cluster or a sensor in one of the wheels or trans?

Speedometer, Odometer and Trip Odometer are driven by same circuit. Failure of Odometer and Trip Odometer suggests a circuit board fault on the instrument panel. A used instrument panel or repair of yours is probabaly best options. Check online for IP repair sources.

So it's a circuit board fault...it just seems so strange how the needle works but numbers don't roll. Thanks for the response TexasHonda!

Instrument panel removal is not hard if you follow the shop manual instructions for trim removal. I've done it once on my 2.5TL to replace the D4 light bulb. PM your email address and I'll forward the pdf files for the procedure.

Let's see what everyone thinks about this one. I asked my local ACURA dealer about this. The tech said he has seen the odometer & trip meter not working being caused by failed speed sensor. If I understood correctly, he thinks it is a speed sensor associated with the tranny (???). Has anyone on our forum been down this road--had a speed sensor replaced to fix this problem? Thanks in advance!!!

^ The Vehicle Speed Sensor goes into the differential, and is what makes your speedometer and odometers work. If that fails, then your D4 light should start flashing, and either the speedometer will be bouncy or not work at all. Perhaps he forgot that 1Gs have a differential, so he said the tranny, but it's in the diff.

Like Go90go said, the speedometer should malfunction too if speed sensor failed. If only the odometer and trip meter stopped working, it will most likely be the cluster itself. I had this problem, but since took the cluster out and give it a nice tap/knock, put it back in and it has worked since.

I remembered the post about pulling out the cluster & giving it a shake to "fix" it, so I figured I should ask everyone here before I just go with the Acura dealer's thoughts. Thanks so much!!

I would try Main70072's solution before replacing the speed sensor.
I don't see any way speedometer can work with a failed VSS disabling odometer/trip odometer. VSS provides signal input to circuit that drives speedometer.

I have 1998 TL3.2. Its used car that I bought. Trip meter was not working when I bought it. But yesterday, my odometer also stopped. My speedometer is working fine. What would be the problem? how much would be the cost to fix this up?

First try resetting the trip odometer to zero; several times. Sometimes this will "reboot" the odometer/trip odometer. It may be a mechanical problem w/ the gears that are jamming. If you remove suggest adding a tiny amount of machine oil to the movement and bumping/thumpoing to loosen/distribute.
Note, it could be a circuit board fault. Here you will need to inspect board closely and resolder all the connections (reheat and add a little solder).

Acura TL 2007-- Odometer flicker, lights flashes on and off, gas gauge flickers...
Hello-- has anyone experienced this? The whole odometer flickers constantly. You can't tell what speed you're going at, the gas guage flickers as well and can't read if it's full or empty. Any information is appreciated. Dealer said we need to replace instrument cluster ($1400). Another auto shop said, it's not IC, but something to do with security connection as the clock flashes as well. Thoughts?

Description suggests a power supply problem. It could be in harness, connector, or possibly the gauge panel. Only way is to remove panel and test power supply, wiring, etc. A multimeter is tool of choice, but a test light will also work.

My problem seems to be a bit different. My D4 light quit several months back, and my trip odometer has now quit. My regular odometer works, so I'm not too worried about the 2 problems yet. I have repeatedly tried resetting the trip odo to no avail.

Mechanical odometer (trip setter)
My odometer (96 Integra LS) not working properly. When I reset it to 000000 it will statr there then go to 111111, then 222222, the all the way to 999999 then start all over again. The speedometer mileage is OK. Any suggestions?

I posted earlier about my trip odo not working. Recently, my odometer also has stopped working.
I really don't need it, but when I take it for inspections, it may cause problems someday.

OK, I bit the bullet and removed the instrument cluster. The hardest part is figuring how to unlatch the goddam connectors.
Right now, the D4 led doesn't work, but I substituted the L2 led. The trip odo and now the regular odo don't work.
I wonder if we have the stepper motors behind the PC board like the GMs that were faulty?
I can find no how tos for doing that repair so tomorrow, I'm going to a speedometer shot that claims to be able to repair instrument clusters.
I hesitate to put in a used cluster, but it may come to that.

I'm a little late posting that the speedometer shop was able to put another module in. The guy asked what mileage I wanted on it. I told him what it had been. Now I'm still under 100k miles. We don't go to too many places anymore.
