I almost bought one of these used ~1984/1985. At the time I thought they were gorgeous.
Kinda wish I would have pulled the trigger. Ended up with a 75 base Camaro.

I'm biased because I have one. In late 1985 I was driving a Mustang SVO. A fun car that was pretty quick at the time. One early morning during a spirited drive on a secondary highway I was passed by a black beast. A black, whistling dragon that I could NOT catch.
A 1986 Buick Grand National
Bought it new. It now has slightly over 10 000 miles on the clock.

The G-bodies are such a classic design, aren't they? Whenever I see a nice mid-eighties Cutlass, Monte, or Regal I always do a double take.

sorry I couldn't help itI also do a double take whenever I see ANY of these cars - in good condition - mentioned in this thread so far. However, it rarely is the case.... most of them are neglected, rusted to all hell or other. The rarer the car, the less likely that is to be the case though. Slant-nose 930s and GNs especially. The F40 is a given....
I really like IROCs too but when I drove one I didn't like it.
The ones I've driven were in below-average condition though, plus one of them was a V6....I really like 944s too, I almost picked one up a while back since the car is so affordable (for a Porsche) OEM Porsche parts on the other hand.... not so much.

That's the 88-89 model, which did not have that ugly biwing spoiler as in the 85-87 model. I still have the brochure that I picked up after my test drive of one back in 1989.That said (and except for the Scirocco), I like all of the above. But my favorite of the 80s (even more than the E30 M3) is this:
The ultimate of the F-bodies for that generation. Trans Am body with the heart and soul of the Grand National.

buddy used to have a Turbo T/A though his was a 2nd gen.... sadly some DUI wrecked his car while it was parked in his neighborhood

He threw dual carbs on with some original Ford piece he found at a swap meet and completely went over the engine; cam, heads, full dual exhaust, '88 GT wheels, repaint to metallic blue, etc. I literally dreamed of driving it one day, but it never happened. He sold it before I gained his trust to drive it I guess.
My personal favorite was the '85 GT, the last year of the carburated GTs. I always wanted a black one just like this:

Actually, it has been appraised for quite a bit more. Looking at the car it appears quite odd for a GN. No t-tops. No power windows. An AM radio. No other options other than the G80 limited slip and body side mouldings. I bought the car as a demonstrator in Texas, and later found out exactly how it was "demonstrated". It is one of six, documented by GM, to be used as a law enforcement demonstrator vehicle. I bought the car with 700 miles and brought the car to Canada. It was never registered until 1998 as I drove it on a dealer tag for twelve years. It wasn't until it's first appraisal in 1996, when the appraiser had difficulty understanding some of the trunk codes, when I found out it's interesting history.

i feel like a dumb ass... the major flaw with the camaro's are that there weren't a whole lot produced with manual transmissions, so in this day in age they are pretty hard to find. the 350/5speed combo is real hard to find, i usually end up finding 305/5 speed combos which are ok but still suck because the 305's are tbi, 305 with the 4speed auto trans was the popular combo and they are slower then shit..
