Maintenance codes

Hi,
Does anyone have a listing of all of the maintenance codes that come up? We have a 2006 RL with about 25,000 miles, and we just got the B12 maintenance warning light. I just want to know what that means. When I called for the service appointment they said that we probably need the 22,500 service. What is that service - does anyone know?

Thanks

Look in the manual. It is explained in detail somewhere around page 350 give or take 20 pages.

From memory, B is oil change, differential fluid change, and a bunch of inspections, 1 is rotate tires, and 2 is air and cabin filter changes

You need to stay informed or the dealer will take you. Never rely on what they tell you. Specifically, do not let the dealer add service that is not recommended in your maintenance book. The dealer will tack on lots of profit if YOU allow it.

Grrrr. I don't think the dealerships like us to have the Maintenance Minder tell us what's needed. If you look in the RL docs, there is no such thing as a 22,500 mile service. Acura expects the computer to tell you.

The codes are also listed out on Acura's OwnerLink website.

If you have more than one dealer locally, price check the service with both (or more). I found that a dealer near my office offered service for less and included balancing the tires in addition to rotating them. I called my dealer and he matched the price and service.

I replaced brake fluid prior to taking the car to the track last year. It cost $109 at an independent repair shop that was doing track safety inspections. Of course, that is Northern VA pricing, so it is likely on the higher side of average

Nice !!!!!

I have the owners manual, and shop manual. I wish there was a real list of ALL voice commands and their subsequent functions.

I saw the "pinwheel" but it would be nice to see all of the literal voice commands that are accepted. ("temperature" then "degree" , or "call/Dial" then "ph number", etc.).

Those are actually the only two I know.

Maybe I missed it/them. Is there a chart of some kind? Guess I need to keep it simple. :-{

THANKS! ! !

Here are more. Perhaps you would like to consolidate. There are about 700 voice commands in the RL. I am uncertain which may be unique to certain Acura vehicles.

and of course pages 137 - 145 of the NAVI Manual

Holy Cows! 700 commands? Would there be any variance in “commands” depending on which navigation version the RL is deploying (version 4.73 vs. version 4.31?)

Theoretically a newer NAVI DVD could introduce new categories, but to my knowledge, none have been added to the RL's telematics (in 2005-2008 RLs).

It does not limit, however, the voice recognition of say, the map database. If new street names are added to the database, the VR should call them out as VR is dynamic and voice commands are cataloged.

Sorry to have hijacked this thread.

Here is an interesting bit of trivia. Does anyone know if the upgrades are hardware or software, or some combination of both? If I have the latest 4.7x software in my 2006, does that mean I now get 700+ commands vs my original 560 supplied in 2006?

The 2005 supposedly responded to 550+ command phrases:

The system can be controlled by voice, or by the Interface Dial. For voice operation, the driver simply presses the "Talk" button on the steering wheel and says any of a number of preset command phrases. The system responds to over 560 command phrases, as well as to spoken city and street names.

The 2006 shows the same

The 2008 responds to 685 command phrases, so there appears to be an upgrade? Is this software or hardware driven?

The jump up in voice commands from 2005 to the 2006/2007 levels was DVD functionality where the entire address was now capable of VC entry. This functionality was added with DVD higher than v 4.13.

The jump up to the 2008 RL was again tied to the DVD version with enhancements to Nav Traffic, waypoint routing, POI and Icons.

The jump up to 2009 was a combination of both. The addition of XM Weather & integrated USB interface for the most part. But the 09 RL has a newer version of our NAVI system.

The 700 VC number is not necessarily limited to NAVI VC. Remember HFL is a seperate system, but part of the RL's VC telematics.

So what you are saying is that our 06 can effectively have 685 commands if you keep the software updated?

Thanks for your wealth of knowledge!

Yes...if the new command categories are updated by the DVD alone. If it is totally new functionality such as XM Weather there are hardware changes as well (Hip Unit and antenna).

Not to complicate matters, but a NAVI flash upgrade may also be required. This was the case with the early 05s that had difficulty upgrading the DVDs.
Instead the memory was modified via the special second disc sent to the appropriate 05 RL owners. Otherwise the HIP units could have been flashed by the dealer. That would have opened a can of worms.

I discovered this when I was researching if XM Weather would be a software upgrade to our 05-08 systems.

Last time I took my 09 tl to get the oil changed they said I came in to early, but the d
service light came on to do so. I'm now 1,500 mls away from next due change and code a has come up. I called the dealer last time and they said just follow the computer. I use mobile 1 full synthetic and was told a can go 7000 mls to next service any advice.

An '09 can go 7k mi on conventional. With full synthetic, you should be able to go 10-14k depending on conditions. The 3000 mi oil change is a thing of the past. I suggest writing down the mileage and resetig the MID upon each service.

Also, you are in the 2G RL section. I would suggest you visit the TL section, but depending on your personality, you may be strongly discouraged from ever visiting again.
