Spring clips on dumbbells?
Hey guys.
I bought a set of used weights and bars, but they have the stupid collars on the dumbbells that require the little tool. Pain in the arse to change weight frequently.
I was thinking of getting some of the spring clips (standard 1" bar, not olympic). Are these spring clips REALLY secure? IE: If I buy 4 of them (2 per dumbbell), will I have a weight drop off of the dumbbell bar and onto my head?
The bars aren't threaded so spinlock won't work obviously.
Thanks.
Eric
These are the kind I'm talking about:

spring clips are secure i've used them for huge amounts of weight and never had them fail me... how much weight are you going to use on a dumbbell bar anyways?
they have some new clips out now that they have at my gym that are absolutely fantastic I'll see if I can find some pics, way faster than spring clips and apparently more secure too

$54/pair vs $3.25/pair. I'll go with the regular spring clamps if they're strong enough, which it sounds like they are.
Not a lot of weight per dumbbell... it's just that I am used to the fixed-weight dumbbells from the gym but now with the basement dumbbell/barbell set I got, the complete set of fixed weight dumbbells aren't an option. Neither is the bowflex select-a-weight set, either. $$$$.

I would say you can use regular spring clamps. I have also used quite a bit of weight with them doing deadlifts with no problems at all. Make sure you just get some quality ones and not some thin, crappy springs.
