OEM Acura/Honda oil filter with Mobile 1 5w-20 EP oil?

Are there any contraindications to using the oem oil filters with mobile 1 synthetic oils? Is it better to use the M1-110 mobile 1 oil filters?

That's what I'm currently using now even though the OEM filter is made by FRAM (part number 15400-PLM-A02). Might have to try a Purolator PureOne PL14459 at my next oil change.

Why wouldn't you want to use the M1 one?

maybe cause the mobil filter is more expensive then the OEM filters?
But if the cost isnt too different, then i would use the mobil filter. I would have no worries running that combo to 10-15k. With the OEM filter, i would follow your MID or even sooner.

The Mobil 1 filter is a better filter, and I would go with that.
It is 10-12 bucks (5 - 7 bucks more) but FWIW really if you break down the extra cost, it shouldnt play out to be that much more for a superior product. But if the Mobil 1 cost cannot be justified, try the Purolator PureOne as others have recommended...its just a like 2-4 dollars more.

But to answer your question...

Is there anything wrong with using Mobil 1 with an OEM filter? No.
Would many of us on this board do it? Probably Not.

Yea, I just bought the Mobile 1 filter and plan on changing my oil at slightly longer intervals.
For those of you who are running the mobile 1 EP oil/mobile 1 EP oil filter combo, do you go by mid? Or do you just change after 10-15k miles?

I've taken the Mobile 1 oil filter apart after 10k miles. It was still fine on the inside. I've also taken the Honda oem filter apart after 7k miles and it also looked fine on the inside.

I do a mid (10%) & a half (50%).

A synthetic oil with the OEM filter following the MID will be fine. The OEM is rated for changing every other oil change anyway (A .vs. B service code) so it should easily last for a MID change interval- essentially changing the filter twice as often as called for.

I'm not seeing the reasoning for going with a Mobil one filter really at double the cost of a Purolator. I'm sure it's better than the OEM or even Purolator, but how good does the filter really need to be when you're changing it every 7.5K if you follow the MID?

For people with cars under warranty, I would be very leary of changing oil every 15K anyway- you're just asking for trouble if you encounter an engine problem while under warranty.

I personally follow the MID with a Mobil-one, Q, or Motor Craft Synthetic blend oil using a Purolator or PureOne filter. My guess is that maybe the 3rd or 4th owner of my car might encounter a engine issue 10 years from now when the car has 250K or more on the odometer. So spending more on a Mobile1 filter won't make any difference for me or even the second owner of my car. Nobody will pay me more cash when it comes time to sell the car and I say I have been using Mobile one filters the entire time.
