Post how can someone steal a car with the chip key??

Doesn't the chip key protect the car from being started?? I know thieves are smart but if you have the chip how can they bypass it. (i know nobody on this forum is a thief but someone must know). Also, with the remote start do you lose the key chip protection totally?? I know if someone wants your car they can take it. Also, anybody know a great car alarm company in the Union, Morris or Essex county area???

Hum... I know that in HK, they actually use a laptop to open the door of the Mercedes S-class, and bam with in a minute the car is gone. So, I think it's pretty simple for them do decode or somehow crack the chip.

Of course, they are more likely to spend the time trying to crack the S-class instead of the TL.

If someone really wants your car, they will just tow it somewhere and then get into it

my 2000 Honda Accord EXV6 was stolen last year and it is protected by the same engine immobilizer used in the TL/S. The car was found stripped about 30 days later, insurance investigation revealed that a copy of my key was made somehow...perhaps by a valet or at the stereo shop where I installed my Kenwood eXcelon amp and speakers. The immobilizer computer registered that my original key had started the car last.

BTW, I lost the amp, speakers and about 150 CDs - it sucks big time! never ever leave anything in your car, damn I'm pissed just thinking of it!!

First of all even the laser cut benz keys can be duplicated if you know someone at the dealership. As for immobilizer chip system..take a look at the scene in Gone in 60 Seconds when they are stealing the Jag. I saw that little toy first hand and let me tell you can blink your eyn you, it reads codes faster that you can blink your eyes. As someone said before... if they want your car, even if its a benz, they will take it.

Does anyone know how the immobilizer key system actually works?

I know that the GM key system works using a simple (but effective) method -- precision-trimmed resistors. However, since there are few resistor combinations, you can actually "break the code" by trial and error. Also, you can read someone's "code" using a well-calibrated Ohmmeter.

The part that's bolded is exactly my question. Please help because I had remote start with the bypass installed and now any old key works to start my car.

When I installed my system, I used a transponder bypass module which learns the code in your key and sends this code as a pulse to the ignition when remote starting.

So since it's pulsed, it only sends the signal when remote starting. With the older transponder systems you actually need the key, but it should still work the same way. In case anyone else needs to know, the answer is yes, you should still need a chipped key.

i want a remote start alarm on my tl. and a friend of mine claimed that they can bypass the alarm so that you no longer need a key in the dash for the remote start to work. Is that the same bypass your talkin about or am i off?

That "chip" is essentially a resistor, if the resistor value matches, then the car will start.

Yes, the installer can bypass that "chip".

The black part is the resistor. Resistors are passive devices, no power unless you attach a battery or some sort of power to it.

The immobilizer is on your car, it is "chip" (black thing, resistor) on your key matches that value, the car will start. The immobilizer disable something, most likely something electrical.

I know that all too well. My 300M was stolen that way on a flatbed just last year. Bastards!!!!! My car was never recovered.

Now I have a TL-P, fingers crossed it wont happen again. I thought about getting Boomerang 2 (lo-jak) installed just in case.

I think with this year TL, you don't need a key in the module. If you do though, just cut off the key part.

(Arg!) My Carfax report says my car had LoJack installed at the dealer. Is there a way to use it, as I bought the car used from a stealership?

You get a jumper harness and run a different ECU, start the car with a jig key and drive away. It may run like shit, but its still runs. Car stolen. K-SERIES cars are stolen using ECU's programmed with K-pro so the immobilizer is disabled, best thing you can do it use realtime GPS tracking.
