As a Phillies fan, I am sad to see Billy Wagner go. However, the Mets way over-paid him! 43 million for 4 years and a 5th year option?!? Wow, I would of thhought the Mets learned their lesson from the Bonilla days - In either case, the Mets always find a way to screw things up - and I am sure this upcoming season will be no different

Did he ever give a real reason why he slumped so bad last season? Like a pulled muscle or sore <insert body part> or something?? Or was it just an off year?

I don't recall an injury for him. He had a Gold Glove year at 3rd so I doubt he was lame. I was thinking steroids too but some players just have off years.

Your the first one that has said this is a negative move. This makes the Mets a better team. Why are people concerned with how much money is spent? it's not your money. I remember someone telling me that the Yankees sold enough A-Rod jerseys last year to pay A-Rods salary.

he made the right decision. although not a sox fan, i would've sympathized with them if he left. i believed the whole time that it'd not just be bad, but completely wrong if he left for another team with more money on the table. for god's sake, you just led your team to its first WS in 88 years. but hey, it played out right. now the sox have very little left to spend. Thome's contract plays out to $24 Mil they owe him, along with the $60 M for Paulie.

Hopefully this will drop them out of the Pierre stakes, the Cubs need him bad. Doesn;t matter, after this season I lost all faith in the Cubs. still a fan though. BTW, they inked John Maybre to a deal recently, and Rafael Furcal will make his decision by next week. Maddog, ARam, Neifi Perez, and Dusty all called him up. I can see obvious reasons for all 4 calls.

Well, I'm just happy Konerko's back.

And as one of those "weird" Chicagoans that cheer for both teams, I now hope the Cubs can get a decent leadoff man (be it Pierre or even Giles)...I think their middle relief is solid now with Howry and Eyre setting up Dempster.

And of course, the biggest factor is that Woody and Prior need to be healthy next year.

Looks like no Giles or Konerko to the Dodgers. Ah crap, I guess I have to get used to last place.

Yanks sign Farnsworth...the question is, which Farnsworth are they getting? The Cubs one or the improved version under the eye of Cox in Atlanta?

Who knows?

I do know that because of this, as it stands now, the Mets are the only team in the NL east with a real closer. Playoffs here we come

They're seeking a court order, not suing him.

No its not a bad move at all, I really wish the Phils could of kept him, I meant to say that the Mets always find a way to lose anyway, so I am not worried

Well, you have a point there, they always seem to fuck it up somehow. But you gotta admit, as things stand now, the Mets are the favorite to win the NL East.

The article quotes a scout that said Castillo was declining but I think it was more because of injuries last year. His glove is AWESOME, his bat can be nice as a .300 hitter, and if he leads off again he'll get 40-50 steals (Pierre has lead off).

I'm really more upset about this since I believe our payroll is down to $30 million next year. How low can it go?

The Marlins need bullpen help — they're unlikely to re-sign free-agent closer Todd Jones, and recently traded setup man Guillermo Mota to the Red Sox. But rather than target a low-cost reliever like left-hander J.C. Romero at $2.2 million or right-hander Juan Rincon at $900,000, the Marlins would prefer pitching prospects.

^^ I was expecting you to throw in the smilie somewhere...well he will be a perfect fit for the Twins since they are a poke and run team anyways. And only a $30 mil payroll how much of that does Cabrera and Willis take?...

Oh that's a quote from the article but here ya go.

Cabrera and Willis make next to nothing since they're so young. That won't last forever.

oh yeah I forgot about Cabrera and Willis not making all that much thanks to their age. I'm sure the Marlins will be quick to dump them pretty soon though

I've also heard they are trying to deal Lo Duca. Any comments on that?

I think they are going to stick with Cabrera, and I'm almost positive they are going to stick with Willis.

I've acutually heard the Mets are interested in Lo Duca to replace Paizza, but it doesn't look that away anymore

Frank Thomas, with the White Sox, is now history. And I can't say that is necessarily a bad thing. With two potential first basemen like Thome and Konerko, we don't really need him.

Thomas was no speedster on the bases, and although his home run production over his career was good (488), he was hardly an all around player. It was either full blast or nothing at all.

Still, I feel bad for the guy. The White Sox kinda "swept him out the back door." Not too classy for such recent world champions.

Sad.

Cabrera and Willis will NOT be dealt this year. They're too valuable for how little we pay them. Plus every season they've had except for Willis's 2nd season have been phenominal (sp).

Lo Duca is good as gone as are Castillo and Pierre. We won't resign Alex Gonzalez nor Juan Encarnacion but we might Jeff Conine for super cheap.

Starters 05 06
C LoDuca Treanor? - little experience
1B Delgado Jacobs? - Met minor leaguer
2B Castillo ???? Marlin minor leaguer
SS Gonzalez Hanley Ramirez? Robert Andino? - more minors
3B Lowell Cabrera will probably move here
LF Cabrera/Conine Ummmm
CF Pierre
RF Encarnacion Me!!!!

Speaking of KKK, anyone hear that Atlanta Falcons star LB Keith Brooking is in a big real estate deal with former good ole boy John Rocker. They're going to build a development I believe in the Atlanta area.

Hopefully Bowyer mentally can close. I've seen guys with nasty stuff that can't get past middle relief.

No way. Hermanson is a Cherokee Indian.

And the claim that Jenks has ties to the KKK is horseturd (well, I'd eat my socks if he were!).
