Battery CCAs - Time to change to 24F
I had my car serviced with a multipoint inspection. They performed a battery test:
2014 TSX SE - L4 - original 51R battery
Battery Rating - 410CCA
As tested - 365CCA.
WTF? No wonder I (and others) have trouble starting in the cold....Ugg....Not sure if the battery is going south or if its just Honda engineers designing the L4 with the low end battery. This just confirms that the L4 51R battery size just doesn't hold up to the colder environments - seriously underrated CCA performance.
Time to buy the OEM V6 tray and tie down and a DieHard Gold 24F battery.

How cold is it where you live?
Honda has been using the 51R since the 80's. I've never had an issue starting my car(s) in Chicago weather. Our wagon still has the OG battery from 2011. Seems fine.

I have had trouble since I purchased the vehicle new. I live in Boston so weather patterns are similar or colder than Chicago. Sometimes it will crank and start as it should normally. Other times, it will have trouble cranking. I never had the battery die on me and no parasitic drain.
The point I was trying to make is that for my battery there is a 45A difference between the rating and what it was tested at. If coming from the battery factory at a 10% lower CCA output than the rating, that could explain why I have trouble in the cold. The 24F battery size with a 10% min tolerance should fair better than the 51R. This is just my though process right now.
