My husband and I are looking at purchasing a 2009 TSX with 88k mikes. It has an impeccable service history, no major repairs, and the interior and exterior Look almost like the day it was sold. It's listed for $12,900. It would be his daily commuter car and sometimes our regular get around vehicle. He would be driving about 110 miles round trip 3x a week. It would probably get the slightly higher than 12,000 miles per year.

With the age of this car and high mileage, would it be best to stay away, and look for something with a little lower mileage or just go for it? I know that these are really good cars, and extremely reliable. But I do worry a little.

Correction: My math skills aren't great this morning. The hubby thinks we'll be way above average for miles per year. More like 24K factoring in trips, errands, etc.

long gone are the days that you have to worry about mileage!!!!!

remember, cars are machines!! so, as long as you're replacing the broken parts with new parts the car will RUN FOREVER.
you wont have to worry about mileage on the engine, as it will run forever and ever and ever....the little things will start to go out, and thats what you will have to replace or fix, the little things....like; tires, shocks, batteries, oil, maybe a window regulator, just BASIC maintenance and YOUR car will LAST forever .

The (late) 2011 model had a few reliability and feature advantages over the 2009 model year. I believe they addressed the oil burning issue that seemed prevalent from 09-(early)11. Has this car had/needed any recalls performed for the engine's piston rings? Any evidence of oil burning?

12K sounds a little high to me for that year/mileage. But you did say it had an impeccable service history.

They are, indeed, very reliable and solid cars. 88K miles is barely broken in. If you take care of any existing issues and follow a good general maintenance schedule of fluid changes, the car should run for a very long time. There are lots of 250-500K mile Accords/TSX's running around out there.

Another key factor could be how long one would expect to own the car.

Putting that many miles a year on it for two, three, four years? Probably no problem.

Expecting to put that many miles a year on it for the next 10 years without doing any maintenance/repairs? Red Flag!!!

Expecting to put that many miles a year on it for the next xx years and understanding regular maintenance and service? doing any maintenance/repairs? Could be good to go.

One needs to look at the overall expected life cycle of the vehicle to understand if it actually makes sense. But for the most part, I'd personally be edging more towards the "still a good idea" camp rather than the "stay away" camp.

One consideration is 2009 was the first year of the 2nd GEN. I agree with another poster that the 2011-2014 models had some nice improvements as part of the model refresh, including more sound deadening, interior and exterior refinements, and some engine management improvements for an uptick in MPG.

Check out 2011-14 and see if the changes are worth the additional money. Also, I think 2011 was the last year that the NAV did not become burdened with nanny features.

In early December 2016 I bought a 2009 TSX w/ Tech with 120,000 miles for $10,060 "out the door" price to me from a Ford dealer, so that included taxes, registration, and tags. It was in excellent condition and I struggled to find things wrong with it. Best I came up with was one faded headlight, fact that passenger airbag had deployed and front bumper had been replaced (which was actually a plus), and some rock dings on the hood, and two bad speakers. Oh and it was a smokers car.

No regrets, just took it on a 2,200 mile round trip drive to Florida. Loved it. I've fixed the dings, refinished the headlight, cleaned the interior, and replaced two blown speakers. Looks, sounds, and smells almost new now.

To me, $12,900 sounds a bit high for a non-tech 2009, particularly once you factor in taxes, etc. Still a bit high even if it has tech.

2010 bought new and love this car.

6 years later and no creaks or rattles. Its only seen the dealer one time for a recall for oil consumption in the manual cars. Other than that its only seen regular oil changes, replacement tires, and rear brake pads replaced.

I just bought my 2009 in October. It had 96k when I bought it. I have 101k on it now. No issues so far in 3 months, except my battery died a week or so back. No complaints. It seems to take a little oil. I've got ~5k and 50% left on the maintenance minder and I think I've topped it off twice (maybe only once and it was less than 1/2 quart each time). Seems reasonable for 100,000 miles based on other vehicles I've owned.

BTW, I paid $11k for mine from an Acura Dealer.
