35% vs 50% tint - feels like a newb question

So I've been searching and looking and looking and searching but I'm still torn. I fee like a total newb throwing this out to y'all. The TSX is mainly the wife's daily driver however with the recent acquisition of the MDX I have found myself with the keys to the TSX a bit more often...not by my own choice!

I tinted the MDX to 35% on the front cause I cannot live without tint. The TSX is untouched and I quite dislike the fishbowl look. I have an appointment on Thursday for all 4 doors and the back glass to get film, however I cannot quite come to decide on 35% or 50% tint all the way around. I'd go 35% if it were mine exclusively, but she will be driving it primarily. The TSX is CBP with Parchment and I know this will play with the outcome as well regarding how dark it appears from outside the vehicle. I'm going with Llumar's Pinnacle Ceramic for heat reduction, same as the MDX, and 50% seems like the way to go but am I going to regret not going darker as a result? I'm only waffling on my decision due to her being able to see at night or being hassled since 50% is the state limit here in VA.

Does anyone have pics of 50%? I couldn't find any in my searches.

Thoughts? Opinions? Pics?
Thanks in advance.

My vote is to have the rear doors and window tinted 35% and the front 2 doors tinted at 50%. With the rears being tinted it'll make the front look darker from the outside without the claustrophobic hard to see effect by dark tint in the front and therefore easier to see out the front for you.

anything allowing more than 35% is a bit useless, IMO. My car is at 35%, and I don't quite feel its dark enough for privacy.

My wife's daily driver is at 15% for everything except the windshield....which is dark for most people, I suppose. But we both think 10-15% is perfect. Yes...its a little hard to see at night if you're trying to park in a badly lit area. But besides that, its fantastic. It actually provides privacy.

I'm in the Chicago burbs and have never been hassled. Most of my policeperson friends tell me they'd likely never hassle anyone for tints. Every area is different, obviously.

If you haven't been hassled with 35%, then I'd probably go at least that dark.

I've considered this, but I'm not convinced we'll like the staggered look honestly. It's still being considered, but I do appreciate the response.

Thanks. Both trucks (06 and 13) were tinted 35% on the front with the factory 18-20% on the back and wasn't really an issue. The MDX is now 35% fronts with the factory 15% and she hasn't complained about it yet. I'm leaning towards 35% for all 5 windows as I think it's the best blend of privacy/heat and sun prevention/less chance of being hassled.

Then I think you should go with the 35% all around. I think you are nervous and don't want to end up making a mistake, but look at this way, you like the 35%, so you are more likely to be happy with that over the 50%. It's not permanent or overly expensive, so just go with the 35%, if you don't like it, it's easy enough to replace with 50% right.

35%

For the reasons you said. It'd be a good trade between privacy and visibility. And it's consistent with what you already have so it wouldn't be much adjustment between vehicles.

Appreciate it fellas. We're going 35% it appears. The wife seems good with it and that's my largest concern. She actually doesn't want it tinted at all, but that's not gonna fly anymore!
At least this will make driving the TSX a little more bearable when she takes my MDX.

What privacy are you gaining when having such dark tint.

I usually keep a game cube and nintendo in the car. 5% tint so you can't see up in my window. People don't understand it...but I'm like Boss Hogg on candy.

Not to mention that I pull tricks and look slick at all times when I'm flipping.

Whilst I am barre sipping, car dipping...and I have a Grant steering wheel whose wood grain I'm gripping.

You don't get how dark tint adds privacy?

It's because the tint makes the windows darker and that makes it more difficult for people outside of the car, to see inside of the car. It increases the "state of being apart from other people or concealed from their view; solitude; seclusion" and/or the "state of being free from unwanted or undue intrusion or disturbance in one's private life or affairs; freedom to be let alone".

35% turned out well. Not too dark and not too light. Definitely shows lighter due to the Parchment interior and its most noticeable in the back glass. Happy with the outcome though.

That's 35%? Would 50% have even shown up?

Yep, 35% Llumar Pinnacle series full ceramic. Your question is exactly why I'm glad I didn't go with 50%.

I'm guessing yours had no tint in the rear at all from factory correct? This might be why the 35% looks less than usual. But VERY good call not going 50%.

Correct, no noticeable tint from the factory. It was supposed to be UV laminated but it was likely clear or even 80%. No way to confirm as we didn't put a meter on it like we did with the MDX.
Thanks, 35% was the right choice. Wife doesn't hate it either so that's a win win.

On these cars 35% in the front and 5% in the back looks fantastic. Did I miss something, why did you not tinted the rear window?

The rear window is tinted, with the same 35%. However due to the large Parchment colored rear deck the tint does seem less dark. I had the area around the 3rd brake light cutout as it could be a concern at state inspection time.

I think tint laws are stupid in the sense that cops are allowed to go as dark as they want ON THEIR PERSONAL VEHICLES. I have 20% all around, but I have the windshield clear as well as the sunroof which adds light when needed. I have never been hassled, but I don't attract unwanted attention. However, if they need to meet quotas they may be pulling me over just to make the numbers.

Before anyone says it, the law is the law and I know that. It is the fact that they could be focusing their time more on drug deals, DUI, domestic abuse etc., yet hassling someone like me who has no criminal record and just wants some shade from the sun makes me a target regardless.

You are hitting the main issue with laws and governing bodies in general. Laws are generally made in order to create a power hierarchy between civilians and the law enforcement/Government officials and in order to create peace and safety. But the issue is when to draw the line between simply telling people what to do and having a good reason for telling people what to do. In terms of tint laws, I feel it is absolute bullshit because what is the excuse for cars that have dark factory tint in the rear? If it is for safety reasons, what prevents individuals from having dangerous things or dangerous people in the back seats? On the other hand, extra dark tint really does seem a bit too much to me. Like people who put limo tint on their cars, is that even necessary? How do they see properly at night? In that case I can agree that tint should be illegal.

So this leaves me in the middle, I like states that allow some level of tint because you can usually tweak this a little to get decent tint on. I personally have never had front tinted windows on any car I have ever owned. But if I do ever tint, I most likely will never to lower than 35% because I think that is a good balance between too dark and not dark enough.

side note: Get a note from your doctor stating you have light sensitive eyes and need tint, I hear that works pretty well.
