Dealer painted my wheels

Greetings,

So, shortly after purchasing my 2011 CPO TSX (like a week after I drove it off the lot) I noticed that the machined surfaces on the spokes of the wheels looked a little off. The dealer promised me that they would take care of it, and they sure did. Rather than repair or refinish the machined surfaces, they simply painted the entire wheels silver. I now have wheels that look more like hubcaps. I am not pleased but other than complain, I'm not sure there is anything else I can do with the dealer. Has anyone else run into something similar? Can the wheels be refinished at this point or is it a lost cause? These are the 17" version.

Thanks.

WTF! You did already buy the car so I'm not sure how much leverage you have but I would still complain to the dealer. You have the regular (non SE) wheels right?

Yep, regular non-SE wheels. Although, now they're custom!

They can still be redone but of course it'll be expensive...
What a shitty dealer

Do you have a picture of what they did?

Since it is CPO I can assume that this was an Acura dealer. If so, then they should replace the wheels. Painting them is not the correct repair.

If it was an Acura dealer then you can complain to Acura.

You should tell Acura what happened. Seems like an easy fix from here on out. New wheels. Also, post pictures too. I want to see also.

?? Just go back and tell them that the wheels are not supposed to be fully painted and that it wasn't what you had asked them to do. They'll probably have you pick out a set of wheels from a car on their lot...or they'll get you new ones.

Nothing difficult about that.

You just spent a significant amount of money there. Why would you be shy about going back for something this menial? Dealer cost for a new wheel set isn't much. And they can put your wheels on another car that has damaged wheels or sell them or do something with them.

They can easily swap them with another car on their lot. They just need a set of wheels from another TSX and, if necessary, swap tires back as well

Hi guys, I apologize for not getting back sooner, was on vacation. I'll post some pictures soon. In the meantime I am supposed to call the dealer tomorrow to discuss, I'll let you know what they say.

It's not bad for what it is, they did a decent job with the paint. I'm just not digging it, reminds me of the hubcaps on my old Civic.

Lol, please don't hold back. I happen to agree with you and will be calling the dealer (it is an Acura dealer) shortly.

You did see whose post I was responding to, right?

It actually doesn't look horrible but it isn't right and wouldn't meet CPO specs.

What would cpo specs say?

I honestly dont think they did anything wrong. Looks like your typical grey alloy color. My stock wheels had a slight two tone look. I assume thats what youre wanting. I doubt a dealer could achieve that as most would just use a total wheel repair place to do this sort of job.

To give you an idea what I am wanting, this is what they used to look like:

This is what they look like now:

Granted my wheels weren't perfect, that's why I asked for a repair in the first place, but imho an imperfect machined finish looks way better than hubcap silver, which is what I have now.

Wait, that's weird. the wheels on my 2010 actually looked more like the second picture. Did they change the finish in the 2011+ models?

But yeah i agree it does look like hubcaps.

Neither look is OE.

This is the OE wheel

I'd take that over the hubcap silver. I just heard from my service adviser, they are trying to get authorization for new wheels. Fingers crossed.

New wheels would be a big score for you! Hopefully this works out for you as I would not be happy with what they did (admittedly - it looks better than I was expecting).

The only "authorization" they need is from the General Manager. This is not an Acura issue, it is a dealership issue.

You "can" make it an Acura issue by calling Acura corporate if they don't get you the proper wheels.

While Acura can't make the dealer give you new wheels, a call from Acura about a dissatisfied customer often works miracles - especially if they actually go to Acura and try to get this done under warranty. Acura frowns upon warranty fraud.

They changed the wheel finish at some point during production (maybe the 2011 refresh)? My 2009 has matte silver wheels that look a lot like the second picture. Later years have a more "polished" metal look to them. Not to mention the SE with two tone finish.

I just heard from the service adviser, he says they are replacing my wheels with some "take off wheels". Hmmm, not sure how this is going to turn out, but we should know this evening.

They should "take them off" another TSX on their lot. This is assuming they are in great shape. You should tell them what you are looking for / want as opposed to them surprising you each time........

I got my car back this evening and am happy to report the wheels look great. I was told these were pulled off a TSX by the dealer because they installed aftermarket 18' wheels on a floor model. Essentially these are brand new wheels. It was dark and rainy when I picked it up, but I'm wondering if the tires are "new" as well?

To top it off, the battery died when I dropped it off (great timing!). In an attempt to compensate me for my troubles, they replaced the battery free of charge.

Win win!

I'll post new pictures when I get back, probably next Tuesday or so.
