Are Your Dash Bulbs Burned Out? Here's Your Alternative.

ok, so i was tired of paying the honda prices for bulbs and went out to look for a different vendor. i had heard that radio shack sells them, mine doesn't. i went to home depot, no dice. i looked at the LED replacements, expensive, and i want closer to stock lighting since i may sell the car soon.

so long story short i decided to look specifically at electronics suppliers. mouser electronics had them in stock and ready to ship. digikey sells them but they were not "in warehouse" items, per the site.

now there are some bulbs this doesn't cover, and i will need to go through and fix the list over the next few weeks but for now here is the deal:

Mouser Part #560-CNW123, T1 NeoWedge Lamp - 65 cents each
----> Fits small black bulbs for climate control

Mouser Part #560-DNW1DW10, T1 1/4 NeoWedge Lamp - 63 cents each
----> Fits brown bulbs for climate control and i think they fit the hazard button too.

Mouser Part #560-ENW1EW87, T1 1/2 NeoWedge Lamp - 88 cents each
----> Fits large neowedge base. i honestly can't remember now if i put one of these in the clock location or if i used the T1 1/4. i'll have to update this when i remember.

ok, bulbs this doesn't cover include:

- select/reset button for odometer - these lights have a blue cover on them
BUT you can probably get these from the autolumination site since they sell blue incandescent neowedge bulbs. those should work. they should be the blue, incandescent type-B neowedge lamps on this page about halfway down ($1.49 each, you'll need 2): http://autolumination.com/74.htm

- fog/sunroof/cruise/vsa switch - it looks like these bulbs are smaller than i thought, although i haven't spent much time looking for a replacement for these. they may not even be smaller but i think the base is shaped a little different, preventing it from going into the mounting hole. i have to look into this when i have more time.

OK, so here is the breakdown of cost:

Mouser bulbs for climate controlclock: about $8 without shipping

Honda bulbs for climate control/clock: about $31 without shipping

LED bulbs for climate control/clock: about $30 without shipping

i'll update this as i finish it up when it gets a little warmer

Bob

you can force the smallest one to fit in the foglight switch, although it's really not meant to.

I tried to replace my foglight switch light bulb several times without luck. I ended up having to buy a new switch assembly for like 30-50 bucks. Worked like a charm!!!

Thanks for all the great information in this thread. Since some of these posts are hard to follow, I wanted to summarize what I did to complete the replacement. I did the entire job for under $30.

These lights are for all the buttons and switches. I did not have to replace any lights on the instrument panel.

Mouser Part No. 560-DNW1DW10 - Qty 5

Heater/AC Control Unit - BULB, NEO-WEDGE (14V 1.1W) Honda Part No. 79670-SE0-003

Clock Light - Qty. 1
I used the OEM part here.
Honda Description: SOCKET ASSY., BULB (T4.2) (9.5V 100MA)

Mouser Part No. 560-CNW123 (14V 40MA) - Qty 7

It's a 2002 with 205,000 miles, going to be 13 years old this year! Don't want the expense and soldering and/or taking the instrument cluster apart is more work than I want to do.

They are different. I read somewhere in here, with the back of cluster showing, showing different bulb types.

UPDATED:

Thanks everybody for all the great information in this thread. Since some of these posts are hard to follow, I wanted to summarize what I did to complete the replacement. I did the entire job for under $100.

Other threads talk about going to LED, but I wanted to maintain the original look and was intimidated by the sottering and disassembly necessary to perform the conversion. I also didn't want to waste time fine tuning the light levels, so I chose to stay with the incandescents.

Here is my revised parts list:

PART I:

These lights are for all the buttons and switches.

Mouser Part No. 560-DNW1DW10 - Qty 5

Heater/AC Control Unit - BULB, NEO-WEDGE (14V 1.1W) Honda Part No. 79670-SE0-003

Clock Light - Qty. 1

This was early in the process so I used the OEM part here.
Honda Description: SOCKET ASSY., BULB (T4.2) (9.5V 100MA)
Honda Part No. 35505-S0K-A01

Mouser Part No. 560-CNW123 (14V 40MA) - Qty 7

Switch - Controller/Dimmer BULB, NEO-WEDGE (14V 40MA) Honda Part No. 35852-S0K-A01

Switch - Sunroof 14 BULB, NEO-WEDGE (T3) (14V 40MA) (ALPS) Honda Part No. 35861-S84-A01

Heater Control Unit BULB (14V 40MA) Honda Part No. 35851-SP0-911

Switch - Seat Heater BULB (14V 40MA) Honda Part No. 35851-SZ3-A01
Switch - Seat Heater BULB (14V 40MA) Honda Part No. 35851-SZ5-A11

Mouser Part No. 560-8111 (14V 60MA)
These are wired bulbs without bases; You will have to thread them yourself! No big deal.

Switch - Reset - BULB (14V 60MA) Honda Part No. 35850-SZ3-921
Switch - Foglight (Green) - BULB (14V 60MA) Honda Part No. 35850-SZ3-911
Switch - Foglight (White) - BULB, NEO-WEDGE (T3) (14V 60MA) (TOYO) Honda Part No. 35861-S84-T01
Switch - Hazard Lights - BULB, NEO-WEDGE (T3) (14V 60MA) (TOYO) Honda Part No. 35861-S84-T01

Mouser Part No. 606--8111 (14V 65MA)
These are wired bulbs without bases; You will have to thread them yourself!

Switch - TCS/Cruise - BULB (14V 65MA) (WITH CAP) Honda Part No. 36776-S0K-A01
Switch - TCS/Cruise - BULB, NEO-WEDGE (14V 65MA) Honda Part No. 35861-S0A-T01

Up to this point, my project involved changing all the dashboard bulbs except for the ones in the instrument cluster, which were fine.

My total cost up to this point was about $30.

-------

PART II:

Once I reinstalled the instrument cluster, I discovered more bulbs had failed between my taking out the instruent panel and reinstalling it. So my project got bigger.

A. Indicator Lights

These 14 bulbs that show the indicator lights for things such as Cruise Control, TCS, Battery, etc. were purchased from Mouser. They are wedge bulbs and have a black base except for the Cruise Control indicator, which has a blue base.

Part #: 560-E74
Mfr. #: E74
Desc.: Lamps Std Glass Wedge 14V .1A .72M
Qty. : 15

Cost $13.39

Note: Due to the age of these bulbs, they were tricky to remove from the plastic Honda base. You have to wiggle them around a lot to loosen them, but eventually you should get the hang of it. Sure beats the $6 a bulb price from Honda.

-------

B. Remaining Instrument Gauge Lights

Instrument Panel/Blue Bases - Qty 7 - Part No. 35505-SJ4-003 (14 V)
Instrument Panel - Red Bases - Qty 4 - Part No. 78181-S0K-A21 (9.5 V)

I chickened out and ordered them from the dealer since there weren't close alternatives from Mouser or any other vendor in terms of amps/watts and I was afraid of screwing up the light levels.

Cost $63.73

In hindsight, I probably should have at least ordered the 7 - 14 V bulbs to see if they would do the job before buying them from the dealer. This would have lowered my cost considerably. I still saved a substantial amount of money with the bulbs I was able to order from Mouser, though. Live and learn.

This is what I have been looking for! What about the trunk switch, heated seat, and the seat memory bulbs? Someone needs to do a complete incandescent replacement. The local Indy Acura place and Delray are nuckin futs money!

Upon searching for the neo wedge I found the attached. They are almost the same size as the 40/60mA units I have ripped out of the car. Some non-functional dims are different. Same part numbers as above. It seems as if the 8111 unit may have a bulb in it. I tried to call JKL in CA just now but no dice today. I will find out next week. Mouser is also closed but I suggest skipping the middle man.

T-1 Neo-Wedge Lamp 14.5V
see PDF spec sheet on above link, same as my attachement. No prices, need to call Monday as well.

Thanks for the info, I have several bulbs out now (one on the dash, one on heated seat switch, the temperature control LCD backlight, and the temperature control switch). Ugh. Not looking forward to removing all this dash plastic.

Getting quote, may need tax ID number to get. Someone who owns a business on the forum should make a killing selling a kit to do sections of the car at the rate these fail.
