2 cents.

Breaking loose those #20 phillips screws and an axle nut: spray them wd-40 as soon as you take off the wheel. Keep working on the caliper. Then use the assembly on the pictures: breaker bar though several adapters all the way to a phillips bit. Push against the screw - it breaks loose quite comfortably. Remove both screws; put the wheel back on with 4 nuts (no need to tighten hard); lower the car. Use 35mm nut, a breaker bar, a piece of pipe to break loose the axle nut.

If you live close to Autozone, you can can loan a breaker bar, a tie rod puller for upper arm end and the tie rod (the lower is bigger and won't fit - I had to wack it a bit with a sledge hammer); drive hub puller to pull the knuckle from the axle.

I can confirm you do need a press to replace the bearing.

The screws are production equipment to make installation easier. You do not need to put them back on if you dont want to.

How many tons do I need?

Hello everyone, hate to revive this old thread. but I am about to begin my wheel bearing replacement. I am in need of a press but I'm not sure if I need 12 tons or if I could get away with a 6 ton press. There's not too much price difference but if I could save a little for something I'm only going to use maybe twice in the next few years I will. Thanks guys!

a machine shop or auto repair shop has the big press and will happily do the job for far less than buying a press just for this
Knowing how and having experience makes bearing jobs better~

I ended up doing it my self and bought a press. Personally I enjoy doing it my self. It gives me a sense of accomplishment. And something to do lol. And I will be doing the other side here pretty soon as well as the strut rod bushings as they are in desperate need of replacement. Let me tell ya, doing the wheel bearing made the biggest difference in ride quality. Dosent realize how bad it was.
