You can also get carbon activated- like fancy furnace filters
or make your own hi tech filter with a basic one and add a small piece of the
3 layer special furnace filter materal from hardware stores- stops all sorts of airborne badness from entering the vent system

After the first time its so easy, do it every year or 15k and enjoy better health

how do i add the furnace filter ? do i just cut out a rectangular shaped piece of the furnace filter...but does the addition go on the front or the back side? or both...
guess imma do some trails tomorrow and post my results....

Thanks- what I dont know for sure, I make up a good story for

I was referring to the special 2 or 3 part fabric furnace filters- the upgraded kind over standard paper filters for the house- or at least the one part carbon filters

The new style house filters trap all sorts of bad things from the air and you can breathe better in the car- more alert= better driver

Anyone here NOT been shocked at what they had been breathing thru at filter change?

The cabin air filter sits directly between the air inlet and the blower motor. Often found filled with leaves and other materials- have shop vac handy

my car has many secret mods that the instructors at Track Day school drool over,
and offer to take my baby on a few "shake-down laps" just to make sure those brakes are ok

So what if soda cans grace my exhaust tips, or gaping holes pull cold air from what would have been foglight housings...and maybe the restrictor box fell off when it hit a rock,
(As Jon Lovitz)
~yeah thats the ticket!!!- I ran over a rock and it tore ALLLLLLL that stuff off!
Just ask my wife.... ahhh... Morgan Fairchild, she saw it all
yeah thats the ticket!

LOL, that is exactly what i pictured .... the thing with air cabin filters ... i view them to keep the junk out of the blower and dampers ... ride with your windows down or open ur doors alot and they are useless as far as air quality goes. but i do change them 20,000 miles ago ... maybe time for me to do it again.

When you run the AC it goes into recirc mode which runs all the air thru the cabin filter,
removing open window and door dust- thats their point in existing

Book suggest replace yearly or every 15k miles

Hi wildcat,

partsamerica charge $49.99 for the same filter Bosch C3600, which I paid $14.99 at Autozone.

Cheers!

Hi wildcat,

you are right, I mixed up the two items:

Bosh P3600 = $12.49
http://www.autozone.com/selectedZip,.../selectZip.htm

Bosh C3600 = $45.99

I found it on Amazon for $35.96
http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-C3600-Ca...5345702&sr=1-1

Only question I have is, are there two per package or do I need to buy two?

Why would you pay 36$ for a 17$ or less part?
One available at most local parts stores!
They come 2 to the box because you need 2

I wouldn't =) But I thought the cheapest people were finding the Bosch C3600 was for $45-$50. Where did you find it for only 17$? The cheapest I found for an actual local parts store was for $45 at Autozone...

Bosch P3600 and Bosch C3600 are different. they have very different prices. the more expensive C3600 contains charcoal in it. the P3600 is simply a particulate trapping filter.

Thanks guys!

Did ours today. Easy (well, except for the part where I almost cut my thumb off ).

1st time in ~65,000 miles. Dirty, but not as bad as I expected from some of the pics.

Used the Purolator since that was what was in stock at the local Pep Boys. $22 I think.

you can buy activated charcoal for 5 bucks a bottle at the drug store and shake some on the anti bacterial 17 filter

Used for stomach problems and overdose of anything

Just wanted to say thanks for the guide, just changed mine and found a nice dark shade of grey greeting me on the old filters, unsure just how old they were.

Well I installed the filters and guess what...my 99 TL with 260,000 km....still had the original filters in it. I had to cut the plastic piece out and vacuum that sucker...twigs, leaves and god knows what else decomposed and turned into dust in there.

Thanks for the DIY! Very easy to do!

there are different cabin filter brands and levels of protection from the outside elements.
You got the good ones at 40 bucks, the 12 dollar units are plain paper filter, the 20 dollar units have a micro bacterial spray on them, 40 adds charcoal to it as well--for ultimate air filtration.
You all saw your old ones- whats it worth to keep your lungs from looking like that?
Once a year change the cabin filters- with the brake fluid is good time.
And the house smoke detector batteries too!

I'm doing this tonight, thanks to all the great posts. I'm in for a treat - I have 144k miles on my 2002 3.2TL and I don't think that air filter has ever been changed.. I'll get some pics of the before and after!

Perhaps this is why that automatic setting on the fan isn't working as good as it used to.

I did it!

I took on the project this rainy night in North Jersey.

The filter was changed after 144k miles. And man, these pictures should be a lesson to all on the importance of this:

Bet you will breathe better now!
Replace yearly / 15,000 miles is the suggested -per the book.
And next time is a few minutes since you know how to pop the glovebox clips and the
panel is only held on by that screw- pop out the tray- vac area- insert new filters- cover- glovebox- done
And they get an hour+ at the dealer on this job, buy yourself a `fun run` tank of gas for DIY reward to self

I recently change this. I was afraid that the previous owner never change it...Luckily they did! It was dirty as hell and there were some leaves and hair in the compartment. I havent test the air yet though.

I paid 17 for Bosch with allergen reduction whatevers in it
The charcoal is an extra layer of absorbtion, you can make that and add to any
brand cabin filter- no not bbq charcoal- medical charcoal in capsules at drug store
Good for indigestion, and its what they make patients about to get stomach pumped drink with water- to absorb gas and bad things in stomach
Also good for "travellers treat"- if you know what I mean~~

$12.49 for the pair at Autozone for Bosch micron filter... 10 mins to take 'em out, 10 mins to put it back together. DEFINITELY worth it.

Did this a few months ago on the TL. Original ones at 76K miles and they were pretty dirty. Also had some leaves, small twigs in there with them. But then I did my sister's filter in her BMW with 170K miles. That thing was black! All kinds of garbage in there. I honestly believe it was the original. I always wondered why her A/C didn't seem to work that well. Now I know it was because her filter was almost completely clogged. The A/C works great now!

Well it's been 1yr 7months since I last did this and boy let me tell you I was surprised at how dirty they got. A/C is blowing stronger now as well. It took me about 40 minutes when I did it last time, this time about 10 minutes. haha

The book calls for new cabin filters once a year!
Just like bake fluid changes,- and both will save your life when working correctly
