You've seen them last on stock cars. You'll understand when you do the swap. The torque is crazier than the 3.2 and a lot more fun.

2001 TL, 219K+ about to be handed down to a cousin's son just starting college. It's been a great car!

This was in the family since new and has a stack of maintenance records. It'll be a first-driver for my kid and third vehicle for me. Two things have me concerned—the original transmission at 211K and another timing belt (that's easy, doing that next week). Transmission has been serviced (fluid) throughout its life and I'm torn between a flush and simple drain-and-fill.

2001 tl bought with 89k almost 7yrs ago. Amazing ride,
recently did the full tune up and aside from a new tranny leak,
I haven't had any issues aside from routine maintenance.

275,000 car bought with swapped odometer...

bought a car two years ago under the impression it only had 161,000 on it with a new transmission. Since then i put about 20k miles on it. I finally got myself to get the airbag saftey recall done at the dealer last month and they ran a car fax and told me the last reported milege on my car was 251,000 miles. Long story short. I got screwed but the car runs great other than the crank seal leaking and just now finding out im 20,000 over due for a timing belt.

How often do you change the oil and filter? And, what oil do you use?

I've used Mobil1 since day one. Change it every 10k or so and always with a new filter

Do NOT do a flush. These transmissions do not like fluid being forced through. Drain and fill 3x(total of 9qts). It's very easy to do yourself. Also, use only Honda DW-1.

Yeah, did a drain and fill on the transmission. Someone told everyone that driving this transmission in manual mode, versus D5, increases the risk of failure. Anybody know the validity of this?

My 2003 TLS is just a couple thousand miles short of 300,000. It sat immobile for three years until earlier this year. At 100 miles/day minimum, it shouldn't take long to rack up the miles. That is, once I get my daughter's MCS back on the road and start driving it again myself.

The TLS engine is still very strong and doesn't burn a drop of oil. Body wise, the driver side rear quarter panel has the typical rust forming on the wheel area but other than that its in great shape.

I am actually swapping the TLS over to manual shift here soon. I am gathering parts as I am talking about it. Hope to have it completed before the end of summer.

^^ same here. Had to do some repair work on the rear floor pans, wheel wells and replace the gas tank. Been trying to stay ahead of the rust, so far so good.

315K and not a drop of oil either. Love this motor, although I am kind of getting itchy to do a J35 swap for the extra torque

Only 64k on a 15 year old vehicle? That's crazy! I put 50k on my previous car in just 3 years!

2003 tls 236k

236,056, Every thing on this car operates as designed, engine consumes virtually no oil (1/2 pint) between 5K change intervals. Honda rebuilt RMK transmission operates perfectly during my past 4 years and 40,000 miles of ownership. Body, paint, white diamond pearl and ebony trim still in perfect condition. Very comfortable and responsive ride for it's year and accumulated mileage, BEST and most satisfying car I have ever owned. I LOVE THIS CAR.

In my experience, 150K and no engine oil consumption is pretty damn good, 250k, and no engine oil consumption is remarkable, 315K is truly amazing.

^^ Don't know if it has anything to do with it but I've been religious with oil changes. Mobil 1 5w-20 every 10k miles since it was new.

Plus I keep the rings well exercised on a regular basis

Hey Iggy, I think regular maintenance has EVERYTHING to do with longevity. I too, am religious with oil changes, Valvolene high mileage synthetic blend 5W20, every 4-5K along with Honda OEM filter, coupled with a regular dose of VTEC thrashing, to keep everything loose. Currently, 14K short of a quarter million miles, and this engine still sounds, and performs like a fine Swiss watch!

88300 miles...Was considering upgrading at 20 years...but why would I do that?
All engine/trans original. Full Syn every ~10000.
New plugs 7 years ago. Added Magnafine ATF filter and Tru-cool 5 years ago...with Lubegard Platinum.
Timing belt, et.al., plus right and front motor mounts at ~82000.
Did Rt and Left half axles in past year.
EGR and IACV clean outs regularly.
Maybe time for new plugs?
And KBB says it's worth $2050 tops! GFY
