Unhappy P0420 - My catalytic converter goes bad. After-market CAT couldn't help

Hi guys, I am struggling with the code P0420, I changed both O2 sensors up-down stream and the Catalytic Converter . I replaced old Cat with the after-market one (Magniflow brand) about $250, but the code is still on. The mechanic said I should use the OEM part. I called Acura dealer and got almost $1200 for the CAT itself and $200 for labor. OMG! The worst is that my car failed the inspection.

I am looking for someone/someplace who can lend or sell me the used OEM Cat , so I can pass the inspection! I live in Philadelphia. I need your suggestion for my situation! Have a nice day!

magnaflow should be fine, with the possible need for a spacer on the O2 sensor
Its higher flow rate could mess with readings, its common enough to have a diy fix using a spark plug anti-fouler $5 at parts store, to move the sensor back a little

Did you clear the ECU/codes with a scanner, or our method of pulling the CLOCK fuse from passenger end of dash for 1 minute then reinsert?
Start car and it does a full system test
drive a few days in varius conditions and reck codes

did you install DENSO brand O2 sensors- that's the OE supplier and plug and play unit
The TL is picky about certain things and who makes them = NGK spark plugs, Denso O2 sensors, Honda ps fluid....

Did you actually clear the code? Once a code is thrown it will always show up, even if the problem is resolved, until it's been manually cleared.

How long has the converter been on the car? There is a federal govt. mandated warranty period on the converter. I think it's 2 years and 50k miles. If it's only been a few days, try to get your old one put back on, and install a spacer as 01tl4tl suggested. Federal law mandates that the repair facility hang on to your converter for 10 days. If you have to go oe as 01acls suggested, the magnaflow probably won't qualify as a core return. The aftermarket converters have less than half the substrate of the oe ones. Even the recyclers that buy converters pay way less for aftermarket converter cores.

depending on your state, the fouler method may not pass emissions.

In CA, I had to just chalk up the change for an OEM, Aftermarket won't cut it for our Acuras/Hondas and CA emission rules.. The aftermarket one will fail within a year or two.
