Inner Screen on NAV Peeling - Hopeless?

This has been getting progressively worse over the past couple really hot summers. The inner screen on the stock NAV unit is peeling on the edges, to the point the lower right clock is unreadable in the daytime. At night, it's not too bad, only blurry on the edges.

I rarely use the NAV, but with the AC controls integrated into it, am I stuck with it, or spending $$$$ to replace the aged NAV H/U? Is it possible to remove & open it up? Worth the effort?

I'll try to get one this afternoon.
The inner screen is starting to crinkle around the edges, about 1/4" all the way around.

Didn't the NAV in the 2G TL had a pressure sensitive TFT screen? Perhaps that is the film that is peeling off?

I have no idea. I've rarely used it because the disc is 15 years old & I don't see much point in spending the $$$ to update it.
I just don't want it to go out completely, since the A/C controls are nested in there.

Last I checked, an OEM nav H/U is over a grand

You can retrofit the normal A/C unit control.. they are plug & play.

^True, but the dash is different between NAV/non-NAV models...
Unless I swap in a double-DIN H/U into the NAV slot & fab up a blank plate for the OEM radio & fit the A/C controls there.

I had the same problem with mine, eventually I had to replace the navi screen since it went across the whole screen. There is a video on YouTube on how to switch it.
