You must only use the ACCORD TC with the AV6! Using the TL Torque Converter with the AV6 will cause Catastrophic damage to the Transmission Bell.
Yup, I think something like 48K. Thanks for the info about only using an AV6 TC, was wondering about that.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the feedback.
I've found a mechanic who may be willing to do this swap. He has told me that if I encounter some particular error code, he won't be able to do the swap. Apparently said error code will mean a certain part is broken, which will render the job impossible. Is anyone familiar with this? If so, which code is the bad one, and to which part does the code correspond?

That doesn't really make much sense, I dunno.

Look for another mechanic... That guy is smocking something, There are no codes for physical damage to the transmission.

The guy isn't answering my calls, so I've been looking around.
Does anyone have experience with buying a *new* aftermarket transmission (Jasper, HH) and having it installed? I may be able to get my hands on one, and have a shop remove and replace. Does anybody know how much that might cost, or specifically the labor time of removing and replacing a transmission?
Apologies-- this is not something that pertains directly to this thread, but I want to know either way, so I can weigh my options.

What about a rebuilt AV6 though? I agree don't bother with a rebuilt B7WA.

A rebuilt AV6 will be far more expensive... I mean by all means it will be the BEST Choice but if money is concern? better get the used AV6.

You should use the 06 and 07 since those are the newer design..
Older trans are still using the same layout as the B7WA but with the Band Aids and "Fixes" Acura did so you run the risk of getting another lemon trans but from the Accord Arena.

My friend has a 04 Accord v6 that he had the trans rebuilt about a year ago .
And his engine retired after 230k miles .
00-03 tl is avaliable for about $700-1k in good condition with a bad trans .
I have done few av6 swaps from 06-07 Accord trans into tl .
I wasn't sure if the 03-05 Accord trans is different on the outside from the 06-07 one .
I was going to suggest to him to get a used tl with a bad trans and use his trans.

Is there anybody in the NYC area that performs the AV6 swap? I have a 2003 TL with 113K. I bought the car brand new back in 2002. I had the transmission replaced under Factory warranty back in 2005 when the car had 31K. I am looking to do the AV6 swap

Hi, 03 TL-P owner here. I did the AV6 swap with an '07 Honda trans about 2 years ago. Original trans went at 140k, now at 175k with one problem - I get the dreaded P0740- TCC Circuit Malfunction code now. I can clear it, but it comes back after a while. Cleaned the solenoid screens (weren't very dirty) but haven't changed the fluid. Would a fluid change help, as the State I live in won't pass a car through yearly inspection if the check engine light is on. I will try to reset the CEL and drive for 50 miles and take it right into a garage for the inspection, but I would rather fix the issue. Fluid looks normal.

25k, you're due for a fluid change, change it and try it. regardless it's ready for some fresh fluid.

Any luck getting the pictures updated in the OP? I bought a 2000 TL with 240k for $600 and the trans is original so I can only assume its on its way out. I'll start a build thread or actually, just a "back to commuter" thread if anyone wants to check it out.

AV6 swap guys or shop in Raleigh Area?? pro or semi-pro ?

Is there anybody in the RALEIGH NC area that performs the AV6 swap? I have a 2003 TL with 120K that's been in the family the whole time. Not a beater! Tranny had the oil jet recall done back in the day.

Weeks ago it started slipping/reving during forward cruising. Got 0740 code.

Cleaned 4 or 5 linear solenoid screens, did drain/fill 2X. Ran great for two weeks!
Now during forward cruising it is doing something different! In forward cruising its like it SUDDENLY hits the brakes! I think the Tranny is either spontaneously downshifting or Locking the Torque Converter! But it feels like a sudden applicaiton of brakes, and then the "brakes" release, but its not the brakes, its the tranny (95% sure).
Anyone know which solenoids could be causing this? What to check?
Anyone know someone (pro or semi-pro) in RTP who can do the AV6 tranny swap ????
Thanks! I'd like to keep this non-beater family TL on the road for my daughter!

I am looking to do the AV6 swap

I can do it for you . But I'm in North NJ.
Yes it works on both type-s and base tl .
On the type-s it's a bit easier. Because power steering lines don't run through the speed sensor .

UPDATE: I'm having an Ody swap done now by a local mechanic/small shop using the PDF! He didn't see any need to drill/tap the Ody tranny yet.... Anyone have pics or diagram of drilling?

I hope this turns out well. Might get it back today. I'll share Raleigh area AV6/Ody swap mechanic contact info if it turns out well and if he wants to do more! Stay tuned....

What part of North Jersey? What is the cost? How long will I be without? Thx for your reply.

How were you able to print out everything? I am having issues with printing HOW IS YOUR CAR RUNNING?

The guy at the shop said the only way it would work is if the numbers on the trannies match, but idk what the hell he's talking about. I know my trans is a BDGA BETA and the accord is a BAYA, but it's the same thing basically. I've posted a couple times about this and tried to get confirmation that I'm buying the correct part, but haven't gotten a reply so hopefully this works because I can't afford to buy two. I've done the research and I'm about 85 percent that I'm doing the right thing. If anyone who knows about this can chime in and confirm what I'm doing is right I would really appreciate it.
Why did you decide to do a swap instead of getting a remanufactured one? Just curious is all? How is it holding up?

Why "Swap" instead of Reman?? answer: Everything I read says you are better off with a good used newer-gen tranny (06/07 Accord or 05/06 Ody) compared to fixing / rebuilding/ reman an older TL Tranny!
I think they are right! It took me a couple weeks to digest the PDF and find a local mechanic to ramp up.....

Our TL became "undriveable" last month even after I cleaned linear solenoid screens twice and did drain & fill a couple times!

Glad to say I found a Raleigh / Cary / Apex / RTP / NCSU area local mechanic to do the TL AV6 / Odyssey transmission swap!
Just went with a Ody Transmission with 91k miles. (2003 TL with 120k miles - - grandpa's hand-me down).....

Just got it back on the road and it shifts better than ever! There's "peace of mind" knowing that I now have a next-generation auto 5 spd transmission instead of a band-aid solution!

Contact me if you need a Tranny hook-up near Raleigh! Hope to see ya on the beltway!

Drove the car some more today. The noise miraculously went away. I have a feeling one of the shaft bearings was dry. It took 6 quarts of fluid to fill this one, so it must of been bone dry, plus it had likely been sitting for 4 years.... I'm gonna do a 3 quart flush soon, I used new oil sensors, filter, and Redline D4, but the fluid that was in there was kinda gross, prob water contaminated. I also re-used the newer filter system, pretty much same thing but I like the cheaper more easier to inspect, dropin filter

This thing is beautiful, shifts so smooth, no more clunking or whining like my old trans. I also did the rear main seal and put some redline 10/30 in the engine. Having a ultra smooth transmission and no more nasty oil leak under the car is a big improvement.

crazy how the noise just came and went, it sounded pretty bad.
What exactly did you change out? And what if any modifications did u have to make for the new filter to fit? And what is the part number to the filter?Thx

Is the spin off filter better than the one on the av6? Or the same. When do these get changed out? What are the part numbers specifically and did you have to modify in anyway to get the trans into place ?thx

I'd like to get those replaced during the next trans oil change - the sooner the better, just don't want to be changing the fluid too soon (if possible?) because ~$8 a bottle of DW-1 sucks
Did you ever get the pressure switches done? Did that make a difference at all? Do u know the part numbers?

1.- ATF Warmer
2.- Trans Harness
3.- Range Sensor
4.- VSA Holding Bracket

And that's it? I will re-use the AV6 ATF Filter since its cheaper.
How did your swap go?
How has it gone since the day you swapped?
Did you ever change your 3rd and 4th gear pressure switching?
Thx for the info?
