Crazy Idle (new IVAC)

So I know the first thing everyone is going to want to tell me is my idle air intake control valve is bad, but I replaced that in May so I don't think that's it.

Sometimes when I start my car my idle will bounce up and down between 1,000 and 2,000 RPM. The check light will come on and it'll throw codes P0118 and P0128. If I pull the clock fuse this will reset it for a few weeks, and fix the bounce.

Most mornings when I start the car it will surge to about 2500 like it's going to crazy bounce, but it'll just settle down to normal levels after that. The surge maybe lasts a second if even that.

The commonality between all this is that it happens in cold mornings, especially if it's been more than 24 hours since I've driven the car.

Did I just get a bad part back in May or do you think it's something else? It's for a 2000 TL.

Thanks!

Check your IACV gasket. You should've replaced that with your new valve. Also make sure that it isn't sticking.

Additionally, you might look for a vacuum leak.

Do you have any air in your cooling system?

It wasn't one of those eBay ones was it? I went through 3 of those in a few months the second one did some odd surging within the first 3 weeks and and first and third didn't surge they just randomly idled low as hell(while coming to a stop) like it was about to turn the engine off and all the sudden it came back to where it was suppose to be And everything was cleaned or new(spark plugs, egr valve and ports, throttle body, both O2 sensors)

They were about $30 or $35 on eBay. I just had bad luck but if you need in a pinch it will get you by.

I got the two replacements free and finally got a standard motor products one off rock auto for $70 I think.

PS sorry for the long msg but thought it would be helpful to anyone that has issues with ebays cheaper products...

I don't think I do, but I will double check for that. I did replace the gasket with the new part.

Mine came from advanced auto zone. It was about the same price after I used the discount codes.

That was I used when I replaced it. It was a great right up, thanks!

I had a coworker tell me he thinks since one of those codes is temperature sensor that could cause idle issues. He said that since the car idles high when it's started on a cold morning (which is when the problem occurs) that it could be that sensor is throwing off the idle when it's cold. Does his theory hold some truth or would it be a waste of time?

If there was air in the cooling system would it not run hot? The needle is about two lines under the middle where it's been since I've owned the car.
