Can I put a full can of seafoam in 1/2 tank of gaz?

I have 1/2 tank left and want to know if I could put a full can of seafoam in.
Was going to do it the same time i was going to add it in the crank case but i'm not due for an oil change yet, gonna do that at the end of the summer.

Wait until there's 1/4 tank, then add the full can

you are only suppose to add 1/3 into the intake manifold, then another third into the gas tank right before you fill up, and then the last third into the oil within 15 miles of getting a oil change

Why waste your time. I do (as do most) 1 can in gas, i can in intake, i can in crankcase.

And yes you can add the full can to 1/2 tank.

Ahhh I knew I was needed somewhere tonight! (riding in on my LGM stallion)

anyone still on the 1/3 can info hasnt bothered to participate in the contuing education thread on seafoam

1st timer- I havn't led you wrong yet-
seafoam RIGHT ON THE CAN says 1 oz per 1 gallon of fuel for normal maitenance doseage, and 2 oz seafoam to 1 gallon fuel for super cleaning power- which is what we really want!
Since we dont want to run all the way to empty, and a pint can is 8 oz~~ now some math
4 oz in 8 gallons of gas- that you dilute with more gas when it gets to about 1 gallon- would be half of normal strength, so wait till fuel level lower or buy another can of foam.
To really do it right,,, you would use more seafoam, then when fuel level gets low, add a few gallons of gas so still strong dose of cleaner overall.
I go out for a seafoam run when the fuel light comes on- burn around for a while then add 2 more gallons and run that thru, then fill up as normal.

--Disclaimer-- I got hooked on the stuff by fsttyms1, its not my fault there is lots of good info available on the product useage, and lots of bad info too.
see the end of the new DIY for details.

Read above. What size can do you have? 16oz or 8oz... if half a can is 8oz, then put it in 4 gallons of fuel... if half a can is 4oz, then put it in 2 gallons of fuel.... half a can in a full tank is not going to help much... read 01tl4tl's post above....

Ahhhh, I finally have learned something new!
That's because in my area (Houston) I ONLY see the 16oz can (in Walmart for $5) NOT 8oz can.
I bought two 16oz cans for month but still affraid do to seafoarm cleaning because I read read and still dont know how much amount of seafoarm needed per 1/4 tank (or until the fuel light goes on). Some said 1 can, some said 1/2 can and the other said 1/3 can.
Could anyone give me a firm answer please!

2 ounces of seafoam for each gallon of gas in the tank is super cleaning dose-
if you get 16 oz cans- you can add that full can to 1/2 tank and not worry

Yes drive like normal, and as the gas goes thru the injectors and valves into the combustion chamber- its cleaning all the way
Run it down to warning light at 3 gallons remaing- like normal- and refill the tank
There will still be a diluted amount of foam still working in the next tank- thats good!

Assuming you have over 50k miles- you want to seafoam the intake manifold and clean the throttle body butterfly plate too. Its easy and there are DIYs for it. The gas tank method is the first step.

You can drive it fast if you want too- dont worry about it- add it and drive!

I added one can into my gas tank(when my gas light was on) and one can into the intake manifold. After I went to full up and the car runs very well. So whoever is questioning the process........JUST DO IT!!!

yea.. ive done seamfoam for quite a while now and it works great... just put a can when ur almost on Empty and then 1 in the intake vac line.. whatever you wanna call it, and 1 in the crank case before you change oil.... works great and you will never look back. I really dont worry about the portions label because it has no affect at the end result... Hell it does a better job when u add jus a bit more than what its asking for. other aziners would agree =)..

the crank case is where the oil is basically stored on the car. Just add the seafoam to the same place you would add oil to your car.

Hey soccer- long time!!
Have you checked out the new foam DIY??
- with NEWLY FOUND correct vac port at the throttle body (gen2) or just on top of the throat of the intake manifold (gen3)
The old way with the vac line to the rear of the intake manifold, turned out to only feed 3 cylinders--oooops!
I tested the vac port at the TB with a proper guage-
the slightly larger than normal vac hose-held on by a clamp- thats the first clue its something good---- pulls over 20 inches of vac at idle-
that will empty the can in a second if allowed- which is bad-
sip sip- stabilize-sip sip stabilize is the best method as detail in many places here
================================================== ==============

Napsoner-
the day you are going to change the oil- drive to warm the engine 10 minutes- just like you would to do the vac port method- warming the system.
Then stop the car and turn off engine- open cap on top of engine- marked ENGINE OIL
pour in seafoam- anywhere from 4 ounces to 8 ounces is good- put oil cap back on.
YOU have added foam to the crankcase- congratulations!!!
Now- I am guessing you dont change the oil at home, so drive to the oil change place and have the oil and filter replaced- it will look nasty bad- thats good- better in the drained stuff than stuck in the engine-
Note: The main part of the engine is the crankshaft- so the area it lives in at the bottem of the motor is called the crank-case. Case-- a place in which to contain the other parts-

That is a good idea... I should get everyone to meet in one parking lot and then we all ride out together in a cloud of smoke... then get stopped and yelled at by some of Houston's finest... with videos and pictures for all to enjoy...

Thanks indoMFP, I think I got all the infos needed (Also red your new DIY seafoarm) and planning to do it this Saturday morning FOR THE 1st TIME with 107K mi on it. Since Im close to Beltway8+Hwy45 (SE) I may use that Tollroad hwy. However, for VTEC run, I wonder if I can use D2 and 4-5K RPM instead of D3? Because I dont want to be pullover for speed!

Use the SS mode of the trans and 2nd gear is fine- its the 4000 rpm sustained first- then full throttle to vtec runs that matters- top speed not the intent

Seafoarm party sound fun!
No problem... i actually live out by that way... let me know... Friday night would be better than Saturday morning... cops on the Beltway on Sat. and if your doing it, then run 45S, instead of the Beltway or going North... the new cops are up 45 North...

Here, we call it a "Free the road" rather than Frontage road. It's also run parallel with Hwy but more red lights (and vehicles), it almost like every 1 or 2 miles so it wont worth to drive there during the seafoarm process; Not to mention should I must stop at the red light... well, I can feel the pain for whoever stop behind me.

Nothing will clean the buildup in the egr ports other than taking the IM off and hand cleaning it.

01tl4tl: I've got 2 16oz cans. Can I put a full 16oz in a 1/4 tank and the other through the vac line?
I'm not putting any in the crankcase cause I just had my oil changed. I'm going to do this right before I start a 400km drive so by the end all the shit should be blown out lol.

Hey playa, read the above posts and the other threads... 2oz per every gallon... if you have 1/4 a tank of gas, you have about 4 gallons of gas, so I would use half a bottle of seafoam. A full bottle is pretty concentrated, so if you go that route then drive a few miles/kms and then get more gas still leaving a diluted amount of the seafoam in... no harm....

as said- 2 ounces per gallon of fuel is SUPER cleaning dose-
you can add that anyway you want- half tank/8 gallons with 16 oz can is great for trip- then throw in whatever was left from the intake vac method can into the gas tank when you fill up again. It wont usually take 16 oz in the vac- at a certain point there is enough- the engine may have died 2-3 times- so you are good enough- can always do a little more later
Be sure to have engine warm to do the vac method
A good long trip on a tank with foam- even at 1 oz to 1 gallon `maitenance dose` is going to pay you back in results

repeat in 2000 miles for max effect for first timers

the lady has been foam'd I couldn't wait. I put a half can in the tank and the other half through vac line. took about 15 minutes and I never stalled it (by myself). I did not notice any smoke while performing it until after it sat for 15 minutes. Then hit the road for the 4k run and hot starts up to 5500. I'm on low gas now, tomorrow I have a 400km trip so I might fire the other bottle in the tank when I fill up and let it continue to work its magic.

btw, while doing the runs to 60mph it's a good time to re-bed your brakes

I know this is going to be very hard for some of you to believe - the rest of you may laugh smugly at my expense for trying too hard to help all the time
so you all may want to be sitting down.......ok ready....
I was wrong---

shhhh dont tell my wife I said that----------- EVER!!!

Turns out the can I buy is not 8 oz-1pint as I thought, but IS actually 16 oz -1 pint,
Somehow in my mind writing on all these diy and question threads- with all the 8 oz to 4 gallons gas talk lately- that number got stuck in my head 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8
Doh~ surely I am slightly older than the magma of earth itself- memory gone- must use gps to find anything these days~
A normally found on part store shelf can is- 16 ounces- use half the can in 1/4 tank of gas and half the can in the intake manifold
Always ok to use in fuel tank when ever you want to- trips are a great time with constant fuel flow and temps helping it do its thing-

Just did the wifes kids car (some Pontiac POS) in prep for smog test- TB spray cleaner thru the intake snorkel, 4 oz foam into a vac port at manifold and most of it, about 12 oz of seafoam in gas tank, slightly higher than cleaning dose now that I did the math over- oh well- it needs it!

Man your older than dirt

you are still safe to use the whole can in 1/4 tank of gas. Thats how ive always done it (well i actually buy it by the gallon and pour about a cans worth in)
I even run it through my honda mower(not the full 16oz

01tl04tl,
It's OK if we're wrong once a while. It's will add fun in memory life on the other hand. I'm not far from your age so I'mnot laughing
I just added 1 full 16oz can in 1/2 gas tank 2 days ago, now the gauge is between 1/2 and 1/4.
Is it too late to add another 16 oz can,
or a half of 16 oz can,
or start it over in the next week or so.?
