Trip to the dealer. Leak coming thru front pass window pillar. Covered by Acuracare?
Wats good fellas.. Had to drop off my '08 RL Tech at the dealer for the weekend.. It has several of the RLisms happen to it but I just now got the time to finally get it done.. I just wanted to know everyone's take on it..
It has about 32K miles so I wanted to do a rear differential, transmission, and brake fluid change. The dealer quoted me $270 for all 3.. I also needed a battery and they sold me the Acura one with the 3 year warranty for $150.. Are those fair prices for these services? I did the engine and cabin air filters myself to save a bit of money..
But the biggest issue is a leak coming through the front passenger window pillar when it rains heavy.. They are quoting me up to $280 to look at this and fix the problem. I wanted to know if it would be covered under AcuraCare (if anyone knows or had a similar experience). The service manager said if it happens to be a warranty issue, then he will claim it as such but he also said it's very possible that it won't be (hence the up to $280).
As for my other gremlins, the door handle issue, hard jerky reverse, drivers side mirror not going back when I go from reverse to drive, my display clock going out, and the 30-35mph propeller shaft whine, nothing happens when they diagnose it so of course they won't do the repair. I did manage to show the service manager the clock being out, but he said the tech working on the car has to see it. Is there any tip to get around this. It's extremely annoying and inconvenient that this is their policy.. I know why it must be like this, but it's just really annoying.. My AcuraCare runs through the end of 2017 but the service manager made a note of these issues and if they pop up after the warranty expires, then he said Acura will goodwill it..
Thanks in advance for the help and advice guys..

The leak issue I had sounds like the same a s yours and was just leaves that need to be blown out of the drains that are up by the moon roof. Not a mechanical issue that your warranty will cover and definitely not worth $280. Good Luck

How come water penetrates anyway? I had poured hot water into those drains, it still leaks water in when it rains...
I've read many posts this is happening to many, surprising it's not a TSB. Either these drain tubes have to be wider or there's somewhere this water is leaking in. anyone knows where / how does it go in, in the first place?

From a 3G TL that experienced the water issue...
the sunroof tray that leads to those drains has a lip...so when and if it rains and the drains are clogged, or have debris in them, or if you're parked at an odd angle, or if it rains faster than it can drain...some water will go over the edge of the lip onto the headliner and usually where it'll show up is right where the a pillar trim cover and the sunroof meet.
Good luck!
Those prices don't seem crazy to me...but then again, I'm a miser with that stuff since I can do it myself.

On the clock are you referring to the display pod that sits on top of the dash? If so is it the only component affected? I had issue similar and looking on here found to remove the pod the solder joints on the circuit board had gotten corrupted and failed. This could be covered under your warranty the board is over $200. I soldered the joints with fresh beads and all good.
For the leak I keep heavy duty picture hanger wire as a fish and run that through the drains to clear them out. If that doesnt turn out to be issue and I assume you are referring to your A pillar if the windshield has been replaced and not done correctly that could also cause leak at a pillar too
The fluid swaps sound incredibly cheap ($90 ea) especially for the brakes but as Rockstar states I do my own after some screw ups at shops I dont trust the dealers or other shops.

Took a closer look today at that moonroof. The leak can happen on both sides. I think I found out where the water leaks in and shows up later out of the velvetty fabric on the pillars. it's not a small opening, its quite big relatively; see pics below.
My questions:
Does anyone know why the car is designed like this with such openings left on each side? It almost seems like it has a purpose coz the gaps are large. It's weird that no one considered: hey, those could leak stuff in there.
Has anyone had this fixed at the dealer, Were these gaps the actual problem? How do they look after the fix?
Can anyone else post pictures taken from the same horizontal angle to compare?
I am thinking the fix can be some foam, or some thick rubber with strong adhesive, and just patch this up; can anyone think of a downside to this? Maybe those gaps are there for a reason. Could they be left on purpose to drain any overflowing water? this I feel is a little chance coz otherwise, they's have put another drain hole there not a fabric slide.
Also, where does this lead eventually? Is there water stuck somewhere on the pillars' bottom?
It's between the metal and the fabric. not so obvious at this angle.
Better view here. The drains are behind the metal on the top left corner.
The passenger side.

Does anyone else have these same gaps between the lining and the moonroof tray?

Can any of you good people driving an RL please help out and roll back your moonroof and check if you got those gaps as well as per my pictures above?

You'd have to see it to know. Probably your TL is different.
The drain lines are on the far corner, and when you pour water into them you can see all the water drain below behind the tire. This is happening in heavy rain cause the drain pipe is too narrow, and the overflowing water backs-up and makes its way into those gaps. Those gaps are like a liner-made slide. And the water drops on the inside come thru that faux-suede liner.
I wondered at some point where is all this water in the moonroof coming from in the first place if the roof is closed. I noticed the rear left of my roof doesn't move all the way up and closes, it remains maybe 2-3 mm off. If I push the roof from below, it slides up a bit. Maybe the water leaks through there? Anyone knows how to adjust the roof to close all the way up? Its the rear left side that remains slightly lower, the rest all closes fine.
If RL drivers can please check if you have those gaps in the hopes of proving a design issue, and those who noticed a leak to check and see if their roof closes fine.

Its actually both side on the back, so its a front-back lack of alignment. The back remains slightly dipped down. It causes water to leak in when it pours down. the water runs over to those gaps and down that liner.
So in future, if you have a leak, check if the sunroof is flush.
