New RL owner! 2006 Acura RL white/black with 16,000 miles on 20's!
Well we picked up our 06 RL back in September and I have been lurking around these forums ever since. It is a 2006 RL that is pearl white with black leather. We bought it from the original owner from Florida and it has only 16,000 miles. I bought this to use as my daily driver including through winter So far so good as it is a nice luxurious/smooth ride. However, I was expecting it to be slightly more sporty but I think it may be better this way because the roads here in PA are pretty horrible. I have already added the wood steering wheel, wood shift knob and a set of 20x8.5 Privat wheels with 255/35/20 Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The tires made a huge difference in overall feel/handling/noise. I weighed the stock wheel and the 20" Privat wheel and was shocked that they weighed almost exactly the same. I think I am done modding... for now

That's gorgeous man! You got the best color combo IMO.
It sounds like you are dealing with some rough roads, so a drop doesn't sound ideal, but even just an inch lower would make the car look way better

I am confused. Did you post days ago in the below thread that "we" were looking to let it go for a smaller vehicle?

I am not sure whether to welcome you, bid you well with the new car or recommend a therapist.

I figured someone was going to haggle me about that! I usually don't keep cars more then a year so I am always looking for something new. In the meantime I will enjoy the RL unless I find something I must have or get made an offer I can't refuse It just feels a lot different then my M45 which I have gotten so use to now. I love buying southern cars because they haven't seen the harsh winters that they will be put through here!
I was thinking about doing the a-spec suspension and rear deck spoiler. However, the wheels are perfectly flush with the fenders and I am worried about them rubbing if it were lowered anymore? It would certainly look nicer though

Looks good! And I agree with the others about lowering it a bit. It would make it look that much better. I've been going through this site a lot recently since I'm in the market for some wheels also. Time to get rid of the PAX!

Congratulations on your purchase and I must say, those Privats do look good!
If you want a more sporting ride, consider the A-Spec suspension as it firms up the ride without making it choppy--Acura/Honda did an excellent job engineering it. They may not know marketing too well, but engineering is certainly their strong suit!
Surprised you moved from the power of an M45 to the RL, but hey, the RL's an excellent luxo cruiser that you can toss into the twisties pretty easily.

Car looks good.
Dont stop modding though. You know how boring winter is...need soething to do.
I personally just took my Florida car up to the tristate area and....um....yeah the roads are challenging. Makes you wonder what those extra taxes to fix roads are going to every year.
About an inch of drop would still keep it very drivable even wen dealing with all the road hazards.
Definately nice color combo and in great shape.

Thanks everyone
The a-spec suspension and spoiler is at the top of my list. I installed an a-spec suspension kit on a buddies RSX before but from what I understand the rear's on the RL are a little more time consuming due to the removal of some interior parts?
I dropped off the car at the stealership this morning to fix the rear sunshade rattle and a brake/diff flush. They gave me an 09 TL and I like it more then I thought I was going to! The steering seems tighter and brakes quicker to respond. However, you can tell the quality is on a different level as opposed to the RL, mainly on the inside. The styling does look better in person and is actually kind of growing on me a little bit.
Are there any PCM updates for the transmission? It seems like it holds the gears a little longer then it should and not as snappy/quick to respond.

I will probably end up trying the install without removing the seat first.
One thing i really liked about the TL was that the paddle shifters can be used without putting the transmission in manual mode first. This is how it was setup in my Cayenne Turbo as well and actually makes the system worth using this way.
Is the 05-027 PCM TSB only applied to 2005 cars?

What kind of mileage are people getting from their transmission fluid? Was thinking about getting it drained/filled while its at the dealer even though it hasn't been called for yet.

I thought about getting a dedicated set of snows but decided to just get the best HP all seasons and leave them on all year. We had blizzaks on our FX45 but only ended up driving in snow a few times so they weren't really worth it. Hopefully the Pilot Sports will suffice if we get any inclement weather this year.

I bought my RL in April '07 and a week later we had a spring snowstrom. I had the all season Michelins on. The car was all over the road, almost zero traction. Once the snow tires were installed the car morphed into a snowcat. You may be all set with the all seasons, just giving you a word of caution.

I read the bad reviews about the stock MXM4's in winter conditions and that gave me an excuse to buy new wheels at the same time The Pilot Sport's seem to get pretty good reviews for just some light snow, if not I will be back to the blizzak's on stock wheels.
Just called the stealership and asked about the transmission fluid and was told he did not think it needed done now. I was quoted $185 for a "power flush" if I wanted to do it anyways. I thought Honda advised against flushing the tranny? Should I get it done anyways while it is there and be done with it?

So the stealer just called me back and said that my car was ready to be picked up. I asked them if they fixed the sunshade rattle and squeaky sunroof and they hit me with a "it is because of the low profile tires, there is no cushioning on those things." Said they ordered some kind of tape or something for the sunroof and wouldn't have it until Monday. I mentioned the TSB for the sunshade and they had no clue what I was talking about. Now they want me to return the loaner car back tomorrow morning and then bring the RL back out once they receive the tape for the sunroof. Only problem is they are about 1 hour away from me and that is without any traffic, so that makes it hard to just pop in and out of there. Should I print out the TSB for the sunshade and demand they apply it? Also,it doesn't make sense for me to bring the loaner back tomorrow then drive all the way back out there next week, get another loaner and repeat the whole process again. They claimed they already have the loaner scheduled for somebody else on Monday so they need it back tomorrow. uuugghhhh

2020 Acura RLX Advance
You got a brand-new RL! Looks Great and so do the wheels.
I have an 06 RL also. The sunroof gets a bit squeaky when the rubber gasket gets dirty and dry. I clean it well and then use BMW part GummiPhledge (sp?) (a VW dealer had recommended this to cure squeaky door seals on Beemers and VW's). You could also use a good quality vinyl dressing.
I had the "tape" band aid fix done on my 2003 CL-S when new. You can barely see the tape so it is no big deal. The CL's had major sunroof squeaks as their body was not as rigid as RL. The tape made it better, but not perfect...still had to use Gummi Phlegde from time to time.
All of my Honda products have had sunroof squeaks, at least this was their only issue!
Enjoy that slick ride!
