If the price is even remotely close, why not OEM?

Only cuz on the description it says the Gates belt is 300% stronger than OEM (i doubt it)...but I've read some reviews that say Gates water pump is not good....so definitely just going to buy the OEM kit, Aisin.....also, can anyone tell me what else i should replace if i dont have any service records of the car.....when i searched the forums timing belt and water pump were a big thing, anything else? Planning on keeping car for a long time

Tensioner pulley too.

Also, you should replace your radiator cap every 7 years. It may sound silly, but it's a $7 part that your entire aluminum head relies on.

With today's timing belt compounds, they are meant to last!
there is no reason to not trust Gates! as it is a reputable brand.

I chose the gates kit because it was significantly cheaper.

you can find the OEM timing belt kit and the gates kit at Rockauto.com for WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper than you can find it anywhere else.

These kits from rockauto.com COME with everything you need. Pulleys, water pump, belt, etc.

when I did my timing belt and water pump on my 2005 RL, I went with OEM on everything..

the most expensive part is the labour and the parts are minor.

but I am reasonable sure that Gates is pretty good too.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like I am going with the OEM kit, found online for about 200.

Oem timing belt is made by Gates. It says it on the belt itself. The blue Gates belts are the best you can buy and are especially good for high tension applications such as high compression or even big lift cams.
