Fuel Pump Longevity Question

Over the weekend my 1993 GMC pick up failed for the first time in its 24 years. As we pulled up to a light, the engine died and wouldn't restart. With some serious coaxing we were able to get it around the corner and into a packing lot. The fuel pump died after 272000 miles.

This got me to thinking about the RL with 201,000 miles. Anyone have any experience with changing out the fuel pump and at how many miles was showing when that happened?

Nothing worse than a dead car at the most inopportune time.

Can't say I've seen a fuel pump failure on a RL

That seems to be the theme from what I gather on here is that they do not fail. However, like anything given enough time and mileage, they will fail at the most inopportune time. I did post some time back when the pump failed from vapor lock on a hot day climbing a hill. Never experienced it again, but that doesn't mean it won't happen again. Most likely, "if it will happen it will happen to me" syndrome.

Just keep your fuel tank far from empty and i don't think you'll have an issue.
