Unhappy Fender differencies?

So the mrs got assaulted by a deer and the front right (pass) side fender is totalled.
It seems that there are differencies between the 2005-2007 and 2010-2012 models (not sure of model years inbetween) Is this so? I can't tell by parts diagrams what the differences are.
Ours is a 07 and the later ones seem to be a fair bit cheaper in the same aluminium (I know steel is available but don't want that).
Was also considering a used one possibly in the correct colour Lakeshore Silver metallic NH686M.

Any help or even a pointer towards suppliers of such would be appreciated.

I can tell you this.

2009-2012 use the same aluminum fender.

2005-2008 use the same steel fender.

I don't know if they're interchangeable between the two types of fenders. I suggest you call the dealer and ask the parts guy. Ask them if a steel fender can be replaced by an aluminum fender? Meaning are they the exact fender other than the material that they're made of.

Are you in North America or overseas? In North America as 01acls mentioned, 2005-2008 is the same. I have in fact changed one of my front fenders with a colour matched fender from an 06 and my car is an 08.

I have a 07 and it has aluminum fenders not steel. The factory originals and the OEM replacement passenger I had to put on were aluminum...

You cant use a '10 fender on a '07. Though still a RL the body style was slightly changed. So the fenders are going to be differently shaped...

Thanks KB1_EJ6. That was what I needed to know.
And of course you are 100% correct, 2007s have aluminium fenders.

ChocBoy, I'm a foreigner in the US. US car. I know the early and lates are the same (per year) but just wasn't sure of differences between the two.

007spy, you should know what happens when you make assumptions.
Of course we have fully comprehensive cover.
Not sure why that's relevant to the question though.
I guess your next comment would have been about getting it done through the insurance? Well they've paid for it but as a fully qualified auto technician I feel the task is easily a DIY.
That saves us some of the $500 deductible.
But to keep it original and up to spec the replacement has to be aluminium, not the cheap(er) replacement steel panels.

According to Car & Driver the aluminum fenders started with the year 2005. So my bad about the steel fender. I misunderstood the OP ref. steel fender... assumption is the mother of all... (we know what lol).

The slight difference in fenders make sense since there are two different fender part numbers from 2005-2012.

Kudos to Jonion for wanting to us oem parts and not use inferior aftermarket steel fender!

The words used here don't add up. Did you mean to say that you paid the deductible, your insurance cut you a check (or they cut you a check for the adjustment minus deductible), and you are going to save some of that money by doing it yourself?

As for buying it new, any of the OEM parts sites carry the aluminum skin, but they are all unpainted. The most thrifty route would be to find a used one.

Well, if you look at the headlamp depth between KB1s and KB2s, I think you'll see the fender probably won't fit.

Well it does add up, or at least it makes sense.
If we paid someone else to do it then we'd save some of the $500 deductible if we supply the fender. Or the route I'm actually taking which is to get a fender, be it used or new, have it painted, do all the other work myself.
Which will save even more of the deductible. Whether it saves all of it I won't know until it's done.

Did you mean to say that you paid the deductible
No, you'd onyl do that when the repairs are done and you'd pay the repairer.
your insurance cut you a check (or they cut you a check for the adjustment minus deductible)
Surely that's how it works, the insurers give you a cheque/check for the cost minus the deductible. Never known anything different but I'm not in the habit of doing it very often :-)

Which is why I asked the original question of course. One model is to be had for far less. Unfortunately that's not the one we need.
I can source plenty of them but finding a used one in the correct colour and worth having is the hard part.
So getting a good condition used one and having it painted seems to be the best/easiest option.

Heavy_RL Indeed yes.

That's probably the English/English & American/english language barrier

This has been put aside for the moment while I address more pressing issues with the RL.
