2006 RL Maintenance questions
So I bought a 2006 RL with 62K miles on it. And, thanks to this forum, I could diagnose startup / check oil level issue and got it fixed from the dealer (battery was replaced). However, the dealer was not ready to replace the battery and was recommending a $83 diag stating that the starter might be the problem. The started would cost about $800 he said. Subsequently, on my insistence they replaced the battery and all is well now.
Now with this kind of poor service from the dealer, I am hesitant to go back to them as they recommended FUEL Injection, Trans and Transfer Case Service, Coolant Flush etc., for the next service.
I am thinking of going to a non-dealer and get them taken care.
We hardly have any specialist Acura shops so any precautions that you would recommend before i take the care to a generic mechanic?
Also the car has rust on the chrome finish (the person who sold me didnt use the car for several years) and the dealer is asking about $1700 to replace all the chrome stuff (the front grill, the bumper molds etc.,).
I think this forum has saved me atleast a few hundred dollars today for me!
Thanks and Appreciate the help!

I am also looking to replace the plastic-chrome plated strip that goes around my RL. Any luck finding it?
I have found that I can pretty much change every panel on my car to a different color and can get a kit online for about $125 but I can not find that little strip for the life of me!
Also, DONT GO TO THE DEALER!
Find a trust worthy mechanic...I had a TL forever (which saved the husbands life) and now have had an RL for a while. It'll run forever as long as you get your oil changes (with the right kind of oil) regularly every 5k and rotate your tires.
The tranny went out on the TL at about 125k...but other than that you should be in good shape for a while. Especially only have 65k on it...that's awesome!
I want to get the leather redone in mine next...the front seats have that perforated leather and the door panel arm rests need to be done.

Did you consider searching "chrome trim" in the "search this forum" toolbar?
If you aren't getting a CEL, then your injectors are probably fine. There is a TSB for early model years on them, but without errors, there shouldn't be an issue.
Your car is a Honda. The general maintenance and lubricating fluids are nothing special. Anyone who can change engine oil can change the fluids. Definitely change any and all fluids that you are uncertain about their age or condition, but don't let the dealer rip you off.

Oh my god I have searched every type of search you can think of..on amazon, on google, on here. "2006 RL Chrome Trim" "......Chrome plated strip" "....exterior accessories" "...etc"
I'll check out a local honda dealer...I live near Tustin and all of our Acura dealers in the area are way more expensive than ones in other zip codes so I'm gonna try the Honda places. I was hoping to buy it online and just be able to pop off the old stripping and put on the new myself.

I would be interested in pics of what you are calling "rust" on the trim strips. I've known of them to chip & flake but not rust. Pretty common to replace the corner protectors on the bumpers and the lower part of the grille but not so much on the side molding. I would hate for you to spend money unnecessarily as those corner protectors are $100+ each I had both the corner protectors & the lower grille surround covered with 3M Paint Protection Film when I first got the car a year ago and they look brand new to date.
