2005 Acura RL Exhaust Options

Hey AZ! So to keep it short and simple, out of curiosity, which exhaust system would produce most gains while sounding the nicest? Thanks!

Cat back? 5Zigen is the most proven.

RV6 is the only supplier with the other goodies.

None of which are available. Find me a 5Zigen, Mugen, Tanabe or Fujitsubo and I'll buy it right now. All discontinued and finding a used anything is like finding a Yeti in Manhattan.

I currently have the RV6 J-Pipe and a dual custom made, 2.5" inch, full stainless cat-back, with 2 resonators (instead of 4), with Magnaflow mufflers.

Sure, I'll post up some pics. I have a couple videos but they don't do it justice. It sounds pretty nice in person, hehe.

LSMKB1, that is VERY nice. Doesn't sound like there's a drone, at least at that speed. Couldn't really tell, is that a dual tip or quad-tip? Can you shoot the specifics that your exhaust shop used to build yours. i.e. Magnaflow model #, 304 Stainless, etc? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks---

Thanks! There's a bit of a drone around 2300-2800 but honestly, it's not annoying at all. At the same time, the tone and sound of the exhaust is "tight" (if that makes sense). It doesn't have much rasp or "sloppy" sound to it, which is great.

It's a dual tip design, I couldn't find a quad tip that I liked. The tips are also Magnaflow and I kept it relatively smaller. A couple of my friends feel I should have gone with a wider one to match the look of my meaty tires and the cut-out shape of the A-Spec rear lip. But I wanted to have a more subtle look while still having an aftermarket exhaust. These tips achieved that goal in my opinion. I'll list the part number and dimensions.

Magnaflow Muffler - Part #11225
Inlet/Outlet Size: 2.25in./2.25in.
Body Shape: 4in.x9in. Oval
Core Size: 2.5in.
Body Length: 14in.

Magnaflow Tip - Part #35125
Material: 100% Stainless Steel - Mirror Finish
Diameter: 3.5in.
I.D. Inlet: 2.25in.
Length: 4.5in.

Vibrant Resonator - Part #1793
Description: Bottle Style Resonator, 2.5" inlet/outlet x 18" long

The piping is T304 stainless steel (polished) along with the clamps, flange(s), and bolts/nuts. The resonators, clamps, and flange(s) are Vibrant brand. While the piping is just generic T304 stainless.

I picked out the mufflers and tips myself prior to bringing the car to the shop. I basically just told them what I wanted in terms of design. So essentially you can put on any muffler and tip you want.

Hope this helps!

I guess I should also mention...

I thought of doing 3" piping but of course that would increase the volume of the exhaust. I wouldn't mind the louder sound outside but I wanted to maintain a quieter interior. In terms of performance, with the 2.5" piping now, it pulls quite hard when VTEC is engaged and the revs are in the upper area of the tach.

Got one...

Found a used Mugen KB1 exhaust at a JDM importer in Mississauga, ON. Needs to be cleaned up but looks good otherwise.

The power of the Interwebz---

I don't think we have seen a Mugen exhaust here. Time for a new batch...

Well, I'll have it in a couple of weeks or so. Lemme clean it up good and I'll post up some pics. This exhaust search has been one of the more frustrating deals ever. Of course, finding shit for a Legend wasn't exactly fun either but they have a strong user group on acuralegend.org that fabs a lot of stuff for that car. Conversely, at least I can find new OEM parts for the KB1 easily---

Get a new sound clip!

Your exhaust is EXACTLY what I had planned for my RL when I still had it. Same exact thing. Glad to finally hear it, wish I could hear it in person Sounds and looks great

Thanks all. Yeah, I'm still kinda gobsmacked that I found one. For something that rare I think I paid a fair price and what's more amazing it that it will be here in Tennessee by the end of the business day on 5/4!

Not a great pic but here ya go:

Here's a quick vid from last night. My dashcam switched modes right in the middle of my pull. It cut off 3-4 secods of the vid, right at the 2nd to 3rd shift. This was with all windows closed, as opposed to the other vid, pre PCDs with rear windows open halfway.

Which one? I'm pretty sure the 5Zigen retailed around $1200, so I don't think that's a huge surprise (unless it's used).

King Motorsports no longer has ANY KB1 parts with the exception of maybe the window visors. I paid $1750 with shipping for my Mugen. Got them cleaned up last week and installed yesterday:

It's practically brand new. Installed a year ago but only has about 5k miles on it and hasn't seen road salt.
