I'm reasonably sure the 61-1 is a battery voltage issue. How old is your battery?

What makes you think the 61-1 code is airbag related?

Certain 2005 RL's are now included in the Takata airbag recall. Check with your local dealer to see if your VIN is included.

Could be a catch-22 in that the a bad or dying (low voltage) battery could be kicking this code out. I would start by having your battery tested. A bad or dying battery has been known to manifest itself in all sorts of electrical oddities.
Battery may test good and it could be your alternator, but again I would start with having the battery tested.

Usually at rest, a battery will register around 13.2 V or higher. But, we don't know if you might have a draw causing a lower voltage reading. That's why the load test is important. With modern testers, the battery doesn't even have to have a 100% full charge to get that info.

It's more complicated than just voltage, but this is a good indicator. You need to have the battery tested to see if there is a drain on the battery itself, or a defect within.

Depends whether the engine is running or not. And its easy to check the battery yourself.

61-1 is the drivers side seat buckle. It carries a lifetime warranty. Dealer will fix for free. Its not a battery issue. I just had this done on my 05 rl.

Bring it to the dealer. They will tell you it will be like $120 to diagnose it. Once they diagnose it as 61-1, the fee is waived and its covered under warranty. It will show when they pull the code.

I looked further into this (Google "Acura code 61-1") and it seems half of the posts say it's "low battery voltage" or "battery voltage malf" and the other half say "open circuited in drivers seat belt buckle switch."

If it were me, I would double check that my battery connections are good, tight and corrosion free both at the battery and the other ends. From there, go to a dealer

Believe the part number is 31551-SJA-A01ZA. You can hit up one of the vendors here on AZ, your local dealer or one of the many on line. I'm local to Bernardiparts.com and use them. Their prices are good but IMHO they do make some of it back on shipping costs.

You night want him to first check with whomever serviced your car. Can't imagine they would have a lot of RL battery covers laying around........

FYI, Los Gatos Acura is now able to order the parts for the airbag recall, if your VIN qualifies.

update

Ok guys new update , I left the issue alone for awhile and it cleared itself. I'm convinced it may be the battetey causing this because now my steering wheal won't bring itself to the saved position any more, the car will also give out airbag code and if I leave it off for an hour or so it clears itself and won't show it's ugly little head for awhile. Seems to me that your guys suspicious about the battery are right has this happen to anyone on a dying batterey sign. Thanks guys and sorry for the long time to update been real busy with college work

It's your seat buckle, driver side. Lifetime warranty. Does it show up in messages on the LCD screen?
