Most driving is A to B...often at 3mph in traffic. In which case we'd all drive corollas or prius' ...but...the whole auto industry is tailored to lifestyle and choice (think Chevy / Pontiac / Buick / Cadillac in days of old)
I like the RDX, it's not remotely boring for what I bought it for and use it for, I will keep it 15 years, will save on repairs, could not have handled the CR-V 4 cylinder over that timeframe, and will still probably sell it for a decent amount in 15 years.
Fun article ....but even the fun sports car will spend most days in that 3mph slog....it's partially what's kept me out of the used fun car market....logical part of me says acquisition cost, insurance, repairs (and frequent new tires on the real fun ones...) is too much for what amounts to a 6-7 month toy in New England....

This is the most biased piece of crap review that I ever read. What he didn't say is the following:
On the Mitsubishi SE S-AWC you can only get fabric seating surfaces while the RDX AWD Advance has premium leather.
The SE only comes with a 6-way adjustable drivers seat and a 4-way adjustable front passenger seat. The RDX has a 10-way drivers and 8-way passenger.
The SE comes with Halogen headlights To get LED lights you need the top of the line Gt S-AWC.
The SE comes standard with auto-off headlights. In order to get auto on/off headlights you have to get the SEL version and then it is an additional option.
Rain sensing wipers are not available on the SE but is standard on the RDX advance.
ACC, FCM, and LDW are not available on the SE trim.
Homelink garage door opener is not available on the SE trim.
He minimized the difference in HP but 100 HP is significant.
The outlander does not have blind spot monitoring.
Power liftgate is not available on the Se trim.
As you can see there are many features that the RDX has that is not mentioned.

Jalopnik is known for being biased against Honda products but I think you might have missed the point of the article.
They are asking if the $15,000 price difference is justifiable?
They weren't comparing apples to apples.
The Acura RDX has so-so leather. It's not even close to being premium leather.

You can't talk about whether the $15000 is justifiable without discussing the facts. All of the things that I mentioned add to the value of the RDX. Whether it is worth $15000 is another discussion; but at least he should have discussed what you are getting for the additional money with the RDX advanced vs the Outlander SE. Without that it is a piece of crap review.

You gotta come hang out in central Texas for a while!! In north north Austin, we are surrounded by 65mph highways and one of our toll roads is 85mph!!! Nice to be able to 'stretch your legs' from time to time. Yeah, we have some of the worst in-town traffic in the universe; but that's one reason we don't live near downtown! 80mph in the C70 with the top down is a blast!!!

Hey, the RDX with all the toys is $40k more than a used Trabant or Yugo. Can we do a comparison?
Neither the Trabant nor the Yugo have Takata airbags and neither car has ever been recalled by NHTSA. Both cars are far smaller and will fit into tiny parking spaces. Their turning radius is far less than the RDX.
Neither car has window regulators to break.
Sounds to me like both the Trabant and the Yugo are far better cars.

Mitsu is in deep trouble. Announced they are closing their only US manufacturing site, looking for a buyer. Future production is slated to come from overseas. They plan to continue selling into US, but have made it clear that planned focus/expansion is Asian market. So is their car still worth $15k less? Not for me!

What a terrible article. I couldn't even bring myself to finish reading it, and it's not because I obviously prefer the Acura to the Mitsu.
This same argument could be made for the RDX being thousands of dollars cheaper than the European counterparts, and likely better equipped to boot.

Before I bought my 2016 RDX tech with Acurawatch I also priced out the BMW X3. To get a similarly configured car the BMW would have cost me ~ $6000 more. I decided it was not worth the extra $6000 to get the BMW over the Acura. I might have gotten a little more with the BMW the way they configure the packages and of course a different ride; but I still decided it was not worth it. The point is I compared similarly equipped cars rather than a top of the line BMW vs a mid level or base Acura.

It wasn't intended to be a serious comparison. He knows which car is better, and he knows most people will not cross-shop the two. They print wacky, nonsensical stuff stuff all the time. The whole point is to get people to comment and to draw in a new audience. As you can see it works. Had the article been published on caranddriver.com, Edmunds or any serious media outlet, I could understand the uproar. But it's Jalopnik, and it's not worth taking so seriously.

And I can also spend $15,000 less than the Mitsubishi and get an 8 year old CRV which will also get me from point A to B.
You pay your money and make your choices.
I once rented an outlander and could not give it back fast enough. (although it did get me from point A to B).

The difference seemed to be about 5-6 MPG better in the Mirage, for what it’s worth.
4 vs 6 cylinder is often a $5k+ difference by itself within the same model.
Generic luxury vs non-luxury model comparisons... just personal choices on what stuff is worth.

Car Crazy for Sure!
Mitsu's resale value will "tank" at the 3 yr point and the Acura will be much higher. Plus, the Acura will give better overall quality service than the Mitsu. I'd buy a new CRV before that thing. I owned 3 CRV's and they are MUCH better and nicer now. RDX...I have a '16 Advance AWD...and love it. My 2nd....Gen 2 RDX. Lot's of SUV for the money, with quality and high resale. Did very well on my '13 AWD Tech. on trade.
