ppl probably just drive the cl much harder and thus is why they have more failing transmissions and tend to not last as long.

6 transmissions in 250K is ludacris thats like 42000miles or so a trans.... LOL.. who in their right mind would ever waste that much time and money on a car.

Did you ever paint or undercoat the bottom of your TL?

Just wondering if you took any preventative measures to make the body last that long. I plan on rust proofing the bottom of my CL as the wheel wheels have rusted out already (191k) and i plan on keeping my car till the wheels fall off.

Also wondering what maintenance measures they've taken. I know a couple 2g TL guys that say they flush their transmissions pretty religiously and they don't have transmissions problems nearly as often....and they take their TLs to the track...

Especiale?

I've got 128,500 on my 03 CL-S Auto. I bough it 6 years ago with 75K on the clock, and I don't think it has had the transmission replaced, or at least if it was, I wouldn't know how to find out. Besides, my CL used to be a Mexican Drug Cartel Car. So who knows whats all been done to it? I know that 3 years ago, someone backed into my passenger side, and the body shop found secret compartments just behind the doors, with a special way to open them and everything. (This is how I know it was a drug car, plus I bought it in L.A. from an independent dealer, the ones that go to police auctions, and there were all mexican cds in the 6 disc changer when I started it up!) I haven't done much digging around since then, but the secret compartments are fun to show to friends!

My 2001 is right at 230,000. Original automatic transmission with oil jet installed by previous owner. Original timing belt as well. Have owned for 10 years with zero major breakdowns and I'm in the middle of a large maintenance project to keep it as my daily driver for as long as possible. Still getting 27-32 mpg.

2003 CL/S 340,000 miles, 4 tran rebuilds. 2 from Honda, 2 from me. Car looks and drives great, engine runs smooth, and I feel the cost of the rebuilds have been cheaper than purchasing a used car.

2001 CLS - Auto, 135,000+ on the clock, not sure on transmissions, just bought it. Plan on buying a cheap 06 or so tranny from a CL or Oddy. Right now it is butter smooth. Next on the list is a tranny fluid 3X3 and filter which I need to pick up today! DOH, forgot my auto parts guy ordered one for me.

Very nice car. I love it!

Oops...not transmission breaking down (thought it felt like it). Instead it was driver's side axle snapping due to rust & fatigue.

I am the original owner of a 2003 CLS 6 speed with 204,000KM, purchased in February 2003.
I have changed the timing belt, tensioners, & water pump. I just recently change the power steering rack. Other than that, I have done the regular maintenance at the recommended intervals. Was told recently that my valves are not noisy so I never adjusted those...
Also, I am on the original clutch. It seems still quite strong, and the car shifts like butter. The only other costly repair I had done was the ballast on driver side.

Nope. No need to, and in many cases rust proofing will cause rust if not done properly. Bottom side of my car is still free of rust.

Well I sure if mine was still on the road it would be up there.... I had the 189th 2001 Acura CL Type S-Navi off the production line. Glad to see this place is still thriving....

Og tranny. Fluid changed religiously every 15 - 25K (after 70K). Filter changed every other tranny fluid.
Water pump and timing belt at 95K.

Ran dino oil until 120K. Royal Purple from 125-170 and full synthetic since then.

Just hit 211k. Replace motor and original clutch at 210k. Car was still running fine for such high mileage but got an engine over speed code and my valves got messed up so I figured it was the perfect time to get new motor with 44k miles and new clutch and fly wheel. Car runs brand new right now. Also did some bolt-ons.

2002 cl with 266,000 miles. The transmission was changed early in it life by Acura during the recall. Runs like a champ, and has had a few mods done. Best of the mods was the DC headers.

I don't care how many miles are on mine If the transmission goes bad I'll get a newer one and install it. I love this car too much. Also I'm not a fan of 4 cly cars. The v6 cars are a dying breed.

Not true. All CL auto trans are flawed.

If it does break, look into the accord trans. swap.

228K on 2003

Just turned 228,000 miles on my 03 CLS-6 Navi. Replaced original clutch at 184K. Other than that just routine maintenance. Only car I have ever owned that does not leak any fluids with age. Love it.

This just happened to me. Dropped the car off to get new tires and then get a phone call saying the tires were on but we lost your clutch! This made me rather mad so they towed it to my friends trans shop and this is where I was told it was just the driver side axle that broke. Had them replace both to be safe. Car currently has 158,000 with original clutch.
