the dealer will likely quote you something outrageous. if it needs to be replaced look into the accord trans swap. Many many people have done it. Find a good indy shop.

if it slips when u apply more load its almost certainly the clutches. happened to me twice the exact same way.
if it happens in 2nd or thrid gear when your in the gear already its the clutches. if its a probem with the trans shifting between gears it could be a pressure switch or solenoid.

slip.....
My trans Just started to not engage right away between 3rd and 4th. after it warms up and going into that gear the rpms shoot up and then it will engage. When I tried it in the Trip tonic mode when in 4th gear it would shift up and down on it's own. It wouldn't show that it did on the display you would just feel it down shift and back up and back down. Is that signs of the infectious trans issue or something else? Its' an 03Cls with 120k miles. Never had a problem other then a really bad shudder in about the same gears off and on over the past 2 or 3 years. Thought it was an issue with a fuel filter I had put on after a squirrel ate threw the line.

could be a lazy clutch pressure solenoid (a and b) they are one unit. Located at the edge of the battery on the transmission. U can remove it. Ohm test them. They should be very close to 5 ohms. Apply 12 v and actuate them to see visually if they move properly.
It could also be a lazy shift solenoid (c I believe it is) it's located on the trans facing the radiator. There are two of them, one on top of the other. The lower one is the possible culprit. Remove it. Ohm test it. Shift solenoid should register between 12-25 ohms iirc. Apply 12 v it should click.
Even if they check out it's still possible they may be lazy to the point it's not noticeable by eye. Or maybe when it's heat soaked it starts acting funny.
There is also the clutch pressure switches 3 and 4 that can be placed. There is a lot of info on the forums about that one. They tend to degrade over time and can cause the symptoms you've described.
This is all in the Acura service manual. I have read a lot in this section.
I would start with the pressure switches.

my advice would be to pick up an accord trans from a wrecker (carpart.com) and have an independant shop do the install. Post in the Regions section for your area and ask if anyone recommends a good indy shop for the install. good luck.
