I've taken the motor out before, and I see the gears. But what do you guys mean by breaking it free with a screwdriver? Just pry it back and forth?

Should I soak the entire gear with penetrating oil then pry at it with screwdriver? Do I need to take the motor out?

I did it with the motor in. I tried to adjust the seat using the motor, and forced the gears to spin in the direction it should have. No need for penetrating oil.

Driver seat in my second gen cl stuck :(

Hey guys,

I have an 01 CL type s, the driver side seat is all the way forward and stuck i believe. When i pull the seat back button, only the left side of the seat moves back and not the right., so in a way its twisting then stops., Any suggestions please?

I had the same issue for a few months. Today I decided that I'd try to get to the bottom of it and final fix my passenger seat. I read the thread, great advice, and decided I'd try the wd40 brute force method before and disassembly. I pulled back the plastic covering the motor near the rear of the seat, pulled up the cloth so that I could see the motor and gears. I liberally sprayed wd40 into and around the gears and motor. I really soaked them. Let it sit for about an hour then got into the back seat with the seat movers all the way forward. I tried to pull back on the seat while pressing back on the recline button but had no luck. I then pressed forward on the recline button and literally pressed my shoulder into the seat back and pressed as hard as possible with my feet planted in the back seat floor. I heard a "click" and tried the recline button again. To my surprise it worked! I now have a reclining passenger seat again! Hope this helps. Good luck.

HELP Pleeeeease!
I have a similar issue with my driver-side seat. A 6 inch metal rod/ flexible wire (like the one we see on bicycle brakes ) fell off and the seat does not move. (obviously!) I tried to take out the seat but the bolts on the rear side are not accessible without moving the seat forward but the does not move with the power buttons.
Is there a way to manually move the seat forward so the bolts can be accessed?
I searched the forum all weekend with no luck. I see how to get the seat out but I need to get to the rear side bolts.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The problem is the seat rail that moves with seat is on top of the plastic part that covers the bolt. To get to the bolt the plastic part needs to be removed. To remove the plastic part the seat needs to move forward..
Thanks

when my seats get stuck I just sit in the seat backwards, grab the 2 metal bars for the headrest and shake the hell out of it by pushing and pulling it towards and away from me with moderate force, I aim to shake it really fast though

never seems to fail me

I have a question for you all. My seat works fine. Except for when you pull forward on seat back to let someone in back. when you push back on seat back it "should automatically" return to last position. Mine does not. Anyone else with this problem?? Thanks in advance.

In the pic above there is a piece of metal with rust on it near the top. The gear to the right of it is where you hammer.

Can you hear the motor clicking or making sounds when you push the button? If not the motor might be shot.

Yes it makes noise and the seat actualy trys to move. Do I stick the screwdriver on the gear teeth or just hit the gear with the hammer.

Get a flat head and put it in the teeth and hammer the gear towards the rear of the car as someone presses the recline. I had to hammer mine pretty hard and many many times before it moved.

I have a long plastic covering with knobs on the side of my seat, do I just remove the knobs to access the gears? I'm having a hard time locating the 'cover' with the description.

Thanks gnuts. Literally did as you advised to place the flat head onto the gear but I placed it counterclockwise as there was more room to work with. After couple hard hits, the gear instantly freed up. Appreciate your help. This site never fails me.

Drivers seat issue

Just got my 05 TL about a month ago and only one of the motors to move the seat forward and back works. I want to try and replace the other.... Anyone know how to replace the motors that move the drivers seat foward and back, and where to get motors for a good price?
