F*uck, Last thursday I got 925$ ticket and 12points (In quebec we have 15)
I was going 180km/h in zone of 70km. I gonna talk to the lawyer maybe he can help me, cause I don't wanna lose my driver license. By the way cop didn't catch me by laser, He counted speed by his car. DO you guys think tht I have any chances???

Yup, my lawyer got me out of my Neglagent driving ticket. The side notes have to be very clear, and the cop that wrote the ticket didn't make his notes very clear. My ticket was 538 american dollars...90 in a 60.

I spent 300 dollars so I didn't have a crazy ticket like that on my record. That would have fucked my insurance really badly.

fight the ticket, even if you don't think you'll win. you'll at least get off with a few less points, and a smaller fine.

why were you doing 180 in a 70 anyway? that's just fucking retarded dude.

You have two options really. I'm not sure how things operate in Canada, but in the US, you can either, (a) Talk to the City/County Attorney's office and try to negotiate a reduction in fines and points, or (b) Get a lawyer and have them negotiate on your behalf.

With that kind of a fine, though, you'll have to have a lot of confidence and gaul to negotiate it yourself. Just make sure that you NEVER admit to anything. They'll try to make you buckle, but you should only say that yes, you were speeding, but NOWHERE near as fast as what the officer is accusing you of. It also helps a lot that he was pacing you rather than using a well-calibrated speed device, like a laser. A lawyer could definitely do a lot for you based on that fact alone.

Oh, and F*** the system. It's just a money-making scheme. In Germany, people are given the responsibility to drive safely, rather than having it enforced. They have no speed limit on the Autobahn, and they seem to fare rather well. Different drivers are capable of different speeds, and I, for one, know that I can drive just fine here in the Midwest at speeds of around 100 mph. There's very few people on the roads. Sure, it is less safe than driving 75 mph or 40 mph, for that matter, but there's not much difference when getting in an accident at 100 mph vs 75 or 80mph. You're dead in either case. It's all about the money, and if they can get you for at least something, they're not going to argue that much.

Hire an attorney, keep your fingers crossed, and in case you didn't know it, the pedal to the LEFT of the accelerator is called the BRAKE. Use it once and a while.

No, that has to be the dumbest response I've ever heard. Perhaps if you've ever taken a physics course (which I highly doubt), you would understand that there is really not that much difference for a driver at these speeds. Of course, there is a difference between 75 mph and 100 mph, but nowhere near as great as a difference as between 10 mph and 35 mph, when we're discussing accidents. In sheer velocity, obviously, the intervals are exactly the same (25 mph), but in terms of human impact, there is a great disparity between the two.

So, in layman's (your language), you would NOT be able to tell the difference between the wreckage of a 75mph accident and a 100mph accident as well as you would be able differentiate between the "wreckage" of a 10mph and 35mph accident.

In the future, before you shoot your mouth off in the Aloha state, you should take some time out of the sun and think about what you say before you say it.

Well, I wouldn't say I'm am enemy insofar as any particular person is concerned. However, I would say that I'm an enemy of stupidity or of making blanket statements without justification. It doesn't advance the thread or contribute to sharing knowledge and helping other CL drivers. I just call 'em as I see 'em, and if I think something holds physically true here in Minnesota, it'll probably hold true everywhere else in the world. If I'm wrong, then tell me why! Otherwise, yewd betder jus' shutch'yer mawth :-)

Even in Minnesota the energy increase with speed is not linear but squares as the speed doubles. This means that if the accident happens at 100 mph rather than 50, the enrgy to be dissipated in the accident is four times as much.

Next time stay awake in class.

Of course, you're correct, but I'm discussing it in terms of what applies to people. Obviously, the force of impact is greater in mathematical terms, but in the sense of human impact, a 75 mph hit is hard enough to cause damage that will result in bodily injuries that will be closer to a 100 mph hit than if we were to compare a 10 mph accident with a 35 mph accident. What I am saying is that if you're driving 75 mph, you are already screwed. The extra 25 mph really doesn't matter, because in most situations you're going to be plenty messed up at 75 mph. Personally, I would rather be travelling at 100 mph, because then there wouldn't even be a chance remaining that I could become a vegetable.

It does matter in terms of reaction time, but that depends on the driver, which was my original point. Some drivers are much more aware of their surroundings than others. That's why I think a universal speed limit is ridiculous. My beautiful '94 6-speed Legend was destroyed about a month ago because of a geriatric dude who ran a red light at 30 mph --- which he "didn't see". My point is that it'd be better if the penalties for an accident were far greater, and that way people would be more likely pay attention and drive safely. If you cause an accident, then you should be fined HEAVILY and have your license taken away for a period of time, depending on the severity of the accident. That way, people wouldn't eat, drink, smoke and talk on their cell phones while they drive.

Believe me, I know plenty of people who are capable of driving safely at 100 mph and just as many who scare me to death driving 30 mph.

This is 100% true. The system here in the states(no matter what state your in) is for maximizing revenue generation, NOT safety concerns.

if u were on a freeway... that would have been a little more understandable... but... damn! a 45mph zone? dood... u were just asking for it! what if a kid ran out on the street chasing a ball or something??? i saw a video of a racecar jamming around a corner when all of a sudden a jack rabbit came running outta left field and... lets just say the impact looked like the rabbit had a stick of dynamite in its ass!

i do a cool 90mph on the freeways and i havent caused nor been in an accident doing that....

but leaving a stop light in my integra... a lady ran the red light doing 45 and totaled my ride! (dumb bitch) i barely got to 5 mph! anyway.. i do believe it all depends on the driver and their ability to drive safely, but u do have to be considerate to the posted speed limit!

Thumbs down Black Box in 2004 oward.....

Ole timer chiming in....
Just a few days ago on 20/20 a man was driving thru his neighborhood where he lived for 20 plus years. Speed limit was 35, he was going 50 mph. Suddenly a car with two gals began backing out of their driveway. That man plowed into their car killing both of them. He was given "life" with NO chance of parole for just going 15 miles over the limit.....

So the guy gets life in prison for going 15mph over the limit in a residential zone? Fuck that. What about the two girls who didn't know enough to look behind them before backing out of their driveway? I'll bet anything that the accident is their fault. Stupid asses ....

That is a very plausible statement.

But still, nobody should be speeding a res zone.

There is a reason places are 45mph and not the typical 65mph and above highway speed. It usually isnt a residential area that is 45mph, this speed usually dictates businesses in the area and alot of cars possibly pulling out a 5mph and cars not just traveling in a straight line.

Imagine if a car pulls out of a Wendy's parking lot a 10mph and a car coming at 115mph rams into the side or back of it. If that happened to me and I lived, once I finished eating my Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, I would be filing a huge lawsuit.
