So I am getting mixed responses on my question for if my Tein Basic coilovers should be making any noise or not.

So I want to get an overall consensus with coilovers. If you have ever installed them on your ride ..

1. What brand were/are they?
2. Any issues when it comes to sound? (clunking, clanking, or anything else)

if yes..

3.Were you able to solve the noise issue .. and how?

There are many reasons why coilovers can be making nosie. A coilover is a more complex system with components designed to be adjustable which in return can cause noise if/when things get loose. Noise can happen from time to time whether it is a 500.00 or 5,000.00 coilover. Sounds are often caused my some part of the coilover becoming loose over time. I recommend checking all the nuts and adjustable components to make sure everything is tight.

Me too... And it is the coilover... And I won't be getting it rebuilt cause I ain't shipping it to California to get rebuilt to hope that will fix it. For all I know the noise is just the way the coilovers are... Fyi I have tein gold aluminum comfort sport coilovers from Japan, that have stiffer front springs now on the front 8 vs 7. Which made a nice difference going over bumps so it does not bottom barely anymore.

If the car was newer I'd really care. But it's mine and is going to die with me so I am resorting to the cheap solution to fix suspension noise.

I had Tein SS coilovers on my first CL, an 01 Type S, and I never had noise problems. The car was SLAMMED :: ask people that had seen it at meets when I had it :: I did have Moog sway bar end links, an ingalls rear camber kit, and ingalls low profile adjustable upper control arms up front.

That being said, my current vehicle, an 03 CL 6MT is dropped on an eibach pro system (eibach shocks and eibach pro springs) and it makes noise. I have a progress RSB with NRG rsb bushings, moog end links, ingalls kit in the rear, urethane radius rod bushings, and many other poly bushings and things. No matter what I do I get knacking and bumping sounds from the front and rear sometimes. I keep it lubed up with mobile 1 synthetic chassis grease. I think the noise issue could be worn lower ball joints.

If your chassis and all joints and bushings are in spec there shouldnt be a noise associated with dropping you car on coilovers. If noises pop up after lowering, then it could be any number of bushings or joints that don't agree with the new geometry.


The only noises the coilovers themselves could make are bottoming out (very bad, raise them up if you're frequently going over terrain which causes bottoming out), or tophat bushings that need replacing ($15 at your local advance auto).

I've installed Teins of different types in many Acuras, including 2g CLs. If they are making noise something is wrong. Most likely, there was an installation issue.
