aftermarket headers with stock exhaust?

I can tell you one thing....
When i did my xs headers years ago on my old auto CL-S i could immediately tell how the exhaust sound changed right after the mechanic installed them and turned the car on for the first time
Sounds deeper with an almost G35ish sound once revved up..had a slight throaty rasp but in a good way..a really good way
This is the way the car should of came from the factory..Not to mention the car was noticeably faster!

I've been considering getting DC headers. I have the money to get them but not the time to get it all installed. I don't want to buy them and have them sit in a box.
and this is really the first time I've ever heard anyone say anything about needing to swap out other exhaust components to get a good gain from the headers.

You question if an intake makes you power, and now u question the advice your getting about putting on the headers. Lol, if u put either or both of them on you would feel and hear each mod.mi know I did.
Why so hesitant to take the plunge?
The only mod I honeslty did not hear or feel was the tb spacer, and thermal gaskets. So the intake, headers, plenums, underdrive pulley, mufflers(purely sound) and high flow cat were all worth every single penny.
My car now makes 15% more whp at peak... That was before the mufflers, aluminum underdrive alt pulley and high flow cat converter... God only knows what the whole power band has gone up by on a whole.
Some mods are a placibo yes... But many are not.

I don't think anyone questions the gains from headers. This car is not new and there are many many dynos on most mods. Here's one: https://acurazine.com/forums/dynogra...eaders-823346/, 21 whp from just headers. Only other mod was intake.
The comptech icebox was also dyno proven, but I'm too lazy to find this info.
The comptech axlebacks (mufflers) were also dyno'd and proved very minimal gains, so perhaps the mufflers are not a big restriction like you believe.

I don't question that, but I also don't question whether the earth is flat either.
Where the exhaust splits to 2 and the mufflers are not really a restriction till you get a full 2.5" exhaust or better.
The comptech header showed great gains alone and I measured the pipe at 2.25" & rear opening at like 2.12". The stock splits into 2" piping. I don't think 2.25" to a 2" split is a restriction.
On these engines you can make 60-70 whp with just bolt-ons untuned.
Main reason to change mufflers would be sound, looks, and maybe weight reduction.
