aftermarket headers with stock exhaust?

So I been doing some research trying to see if you can run aftermarket headers with stock exhaust I cant really find a good answer and I'm not really interested in buying a catback system so my question is if its possible to do that with the stock mufflers or will it just destroy them? if its not possible what other mods can I do to get a few ponies?

check out the vendor list you can switch out the Jpipe which is the Header. RV6 Xlr8, ATLP and a few others out there but these three I would highly recommend. You can use stock exhaust but whats the point when your not gonna get the most out of the addition that you would if you did add a catback too that as well

the entire exhaust is split up into like 3 or 4 sections.

ALL with the same Honda flange.

if I could just go with headers without possibly doing damage to other parts that going to be my route! do you know what catback system would bolt right up and something that doesn't have obnoxious cans at the end I have not done any performance mods yet

You can get the tanabe medallion touring no raspe and minimal drone after I installed the headers. I have a 4" cai, xs power headers, and tanabe medallion touring catback.

You can also check out SRS tuning they make a header set up for a v6 Honda Accord with the bend to clear the rear mount. That's what I am running. had it on over my stock exhaust for about 6 months now no issues so far

$1500 for an exhaust? Did I read that right?
This is the only exhaust I've been able to find that sounds good. I know its a Legend but it's still a 3.2 V6. Everything else I've found on youtube has that obnoxious import rasp. It is a little louder than I'd like but I could live with it.

XS power header with stock exhaust 3 months now no problems, no rasp, sounds good. Get an under-drive pulley to go with your headers and CAI!!!!

You do realize this isn't the 3rd Gen tl section right? Those companies don't make headers for the CL. A header includes a header manifold. Your car, unlike ours has header manifold cast into the head.

On 2nd Gen headers are worth it and make big gains even with stock catback.

When I looked on xlr8 website that part number is listed for the 6 speed car. The 6 speed comes without the vsa.

VSA=Vehicle Stability Assist

The manual CL doesn't have them because they have a LSD. This makes the intake tubing from the airbox to the throttle body shorter on the auto compared to the manual.

Is your car an automatic? Auto comes with an extra vsa throttlebody attachment.

If your car is automatic the 6 speed version of the intake will be too long and the bolt mounting hole wont line up.

Auto intake is shorter than manual intake.

Only options really are tanabe or custom. Could try and find some used comptech mufflers or slightly modify a tl or accord exhaust to fit.

If it is a 6 speed then yes that intake will fit.

I have an 03 S 6 speed and I have that intake in black. I haven't decided if I'll use it yet but I'll probably try it out just for the sound
I'm putting together an exhaust from a 99-03 TL kit made by a company called trubendz. It's just the piping and its $200 shipped from their site or ebay. It comes with a 3 bolt flange that you can use to connect to the headers if you aren't using a cat but you have to have it welded on. I'm using a resonator and a slip fit Magnaflo obd2 cat so I'll weld that flange on the front of my cat and use slipfit or lap connecters from the cat back. Thats the plan anyway I haven't decided on mufflers yet. When its on I'll let you know how well it went together. It may be a few weeks because another project is priority right now.

I know the intake probably wont give a huge gain but it will sound good and maybe better gas mileage this intake is only 176$ too which most other ones for our car about 250+

personally I'd grab headers first. they bold right up to your stock exhaust and you'll notice a big difference.

Headers are definitely a more noticeable upgrade. I would jump on the CAI, picked up my AEM CAI on sale like that off Ebay.

$176 shipped is a great deal. I'm def looking forward to getting my headers on but the sound of that intake will be fun too. Maybe too much fun at first My car plans are on hold now while I get my truck problem sorted out.
BTW I took a look at that $1500 exhaust. I'd never buy one for several reasons other than the obvious one but it looks like a $1500 exhaust.

Headers will blow ur mind when u put them one... Ur ass feels it no doubt. Everyone's ass will lol. Intake is a definite I'd say too. But that's just me.

I did intake first, then it was headers I believe then underdrive pulley, then plenums, then tb spacer and thermal gaskets, then I did ct mufflers cause mine developed so nice holes in them. And then finally the high flow xlr8 cat. I personally think I could feel each mod except for the mufflers, just a nicer sound.
