03 SSM cls-6 build thread

Back in November I purchased a cls-6 in silver to replace my tl. It had 150,000 less miles and I was able to switch over a lot of my parts. I also have a 3rd gen TL so losing 4 doors didn't bother me at all. The car drives like new and the gearing in the manual is much better than the auto. I prefer manual over auto so when I found this car in the condition it was in it was an easy choice.

[/QUOTE]

Here is how it looked the day I bought it

Once I got it back I started swapping parts over

Then I took it in to get it tinted a few days later

On black friday a website had a good deal on the tanabe medallion touring exhaust so I ordered it.

Decided to give the xs power headers a try since they are the only ones left now, this is what I got.

In January my rear calipers seized so i went to order a set of brakemotive rotors and pads, I saw they also had a kit with calipers also so I ordered it. The only down side is they were powder coated red, I was going to paint over them silver but decided the powder coating would hold up better.

In the bast week I built a 4" intake and installed a set of hybrid racing shifter bushings. I had to cut the tubing to get the right bend so I did it in a place that I can convert it to a short ram intake since it rains here a lot.

Looking good. Very clean. Definitely need to lower it though.

curious why you didnt use the 2nd gen TL money for upgrades on your 3rd gen? id rather have some nice 3 piece wheels and coilovers than a new-to-me 12 year old car.

Yes I always wanted a cls6 but could never find one in good shape which is why I bought the 3rd gen tl. I daily drove my second gen tl and it was starting to feel worn out so when I found the cl I decided to get it. I had to travel about 4 hours to get it though.

It is already lowered on h&r sport springs and koni yellow shocks. I also swapped the eibach front and rear sway bar over from my tl. I don't care to go any lower, when I had my old tl I scraped the look it going into a lot of parking lot entrances so I didn't want to deal with that with either car anymore. That's why I didn't keep the lip kit from my old tl.

I didn't need the money both cars are already paid off. I just decided to get the cl because it had 150,000 less miles and it was a 6speed and I use it for daily driving. It only ended up costing me $2500 to get the cl after I sold the tl. My 3rd gen tl is already pretty modded. I don't care to slam the car so I don't need coilovers and I like the look of factory wheels.

Mods for the tl
Aspec kit
Type s wheels with 255-40-17 tires
Type s tail lights
Clear side markers
Roof spoiler
Base decklid spoiler
Redone the center sections of all the seats
4" cai
Zdx throttle body
3.7 shawd intake manifold
Rv6 ceramic coated high flow pre cats
Atlp v2 j pipe with third cat delete
Atlp base exhaust
Unorthodox lightweight crank pulley
Hybrid racing shifter bushings
Aspec suspension
Progress rear sway bar w/ moog endlinks
H&r front sway bar w/ moog end links

Haven't done anything with it yet, I just built it Sunday to see if I had enough tubing. I'll probably just put small filters over the lines like I did on my old tl.

Nice cars. First time I've seen the CL. Looks great. I don't think it needs to be any lower either. Looks just right. How is the ride?

Nice progress, but like everyone else has stated maybe just getting rid of the wheel gap will definitely set it off. Or at least the one that's not your daily should be lowered.

Very nice! Where did you get the CL's spoiler? Did you install it yourself?

Thanks, the ride is good I have th koni set hallway and if there is a bad bump it will let you know. When I had them set to full soft the ride was near stock I would say but it's been awhile since I've driven on a stock suspension. Overall I couldn't be happier.

I am happy with the way both cars sit right now I don't mind a little wheel gap just not the stock wheel gap. I may upgrade the suspension on my tl later on but for right now I am happy with the height and the way it rides. If I upgraded iit still would have at least a1 finger gap. Any less than that and the car becomes less enjoyable to drive because I have to worry about scraping all the time. I had that problem with my second gen tl at the height it was and don't really want to deal with it again

Thanks, I went to a local junk yard and got it off a white 01cl-s for 20$ with the third brake light and the harness. Took it to the shop that does all my work and for 100$ they painted and installed it for me.
