Tranny went and not sure what to do, - Advice Please

I have a 2001 Acura CL S-type. I have 189k miles on it. I had it for 12 plus years and put all the miles on myself for the most part.

The tranny just went and at this point I think I should get a new car.

The car besides the tranny is in excellent condition. The car had no problems before the transmission blew.

The car is fully loaded, navi, sunroof, 17 inch Acura chrome wheels etc etc.

I am not sure what to do, I dont think it should be junked, it has to be worth some kind of money.

What should I do?

If you're really set on keeping a 15 year old car, with 200k on it, then fix it.

Otherwise, get rid of it and buy something newer.

Why would you get nothing for it? I'm not sure what CLs go for these days, but if it is in good shape and only needs a tranny, you should still be able to get a bit of cash for it. Just gotta price it reasonably.

Plenty of people are backyard mechanics who would have no issues replacing it. Or, source a used transmission and put it in an keep driving. Isn't everyone putting in the AV6 transmission into these?

That is what I was thinking, but wanted to see what others thought. I know its 15 years old and almost 200k miles but like you said for the right person they can fix and have a good car. I would guess I could sell for maybe $1500

You could also very likely fix it for 1500. I guess it's up to you. Have you been wanting to get into something newer? If you still have love for the car, fix it and motor on. No point spending a bunch of your savings or taking on a loan if you like what you already have.

I'm sure you can source a transmission for 500-750. Probably 750-1000 to have it installed by a shop. Call it a day.

Thanks bro. Well I agree at best it will probably cost 1500 but will also need timing belt and water pump at this point, and that is almost another 1k. So 2500 into this car seems kind of silly. Especially it is a used transmission and who knows how long I will get out of it.

I also have a new born and if I never want to put him in the CL, it is way to small, the seat barely fits back there.

I was thinking of a Chrysler 300 with AWD like 2014-15
