Hey all

Well, when i first got the car, it was ticking but not loud, and you wouldn't even notice it if you weren't paying attention, but this past week, it started ticking like crazy loud. When i put my hand on it i can feel it ticks...
Well here is the thing, i also noticed that the ticking noise is coming under the car too
here is the quick pic... i think its ticking somewhere in this area...


i was wondering if i replace VALVE ASSY., PURGE CONTROL SOLENOID, would it still be ticking at that place under the car?
any ideas?

If you replace the valve the ticking should stop. That area under the car is the purge canister. It's part of the entire system. If the valve is not working right it would make sense that the system is not working right & hence the increased noise.

I'm pretty sure i'm having this same problem, and i think its starting to get louder as well. let me know if you get it fixed. GL!

i have the same ticking from under the driver side, right in front of the rear wheel. its definately the canister that you took a pic of. i have already replaced my purge control valve though. so i just had to get used to it. do you guys know why it ticks??

Rear Left Wheel???? That doesnt seem right for some reason. . .Isn't the purge control valve on the upper drivers side portion of the engine?

That's where it is... on the firewall on the upper drivers side. Mines ticking, and I really notice it when I'm at a drive thru window of a fast food joint since it echos off the wall.

yah the purge control valve is on the firewall. we are talking about evap canister, another part of the emissions system that is making noise. if you looked at the parts in the picture, you can see that is not the PCV and is the canister that is under the car in front of the rear passenger wheel.

now can anyone tell us why it sounds like theres a little monkey drumming the inside of the canister???

i know the ticking noise you are talking about...but are you all referring to this noise only at idle? or do you hear this noise also when driving and throttling at certain times, like for example cruising at 25ish and lean in on the pedal and u hear the ticking when throttling?

to be clearer, do any of you hear ticking when under load while driving (not just in park or neutral, but when actually driving)...is this most likely the evap canister by the driver side rear wheel? it's not that big of a deal or too loud or anything, but i still notice it and just the fact that ticking noise occurs when under load is annoying...

my pcv used to tick. i replaced that.

my evap canister still makes a repetative clicking noise. if you get right next to it you can hear it coming directly from the can. the only time when i can hear it is when i'm outside the car when it is at idle, for example when i get in my car when it is already on. i cant hear it in the car while i am driving.

^about the ticking under load or throttle that your experiencing, i think that is a different case. could need a valve adjustment, or even just low on oil. but the clicking i am talking about is not coming from the engine.

would a faulty purge control valve cause the car not to start after filling up at a gas station. My car starts perfectly except when i fill up then i need to pushed but it does start after the push.
