Plati Dip Rims, Grille, Door Handles, Window Trim, Emblem and Exhaust Tips

I used plasti dip this weekend on my rims, grille, window trim handles, rear emblem and exhaust tips. I had the chrome rims which I loved but I have had the car for 11 years and was in the mood for a change.

I will try again to post the grille and handle, for some reason they are upside down even that I did not save them that way, not sure why I cannot correct that, I tried several different times.

mmm not really feeling the door handle.

How do you think the plasti-dip will hold up on the exhaust? I know it's a plastic-like material so do you think it will melt from the heat?

Have a can of the stuff (it's made locally) and plan to do my window trim. Think black trim on a black car will look better.

I don't plan on doing other stuff like the grill though I might try it out to see how it looks for a short bit.

Maybe but again I had the car 11 years, it was an easy very cheap change. I like it.

from my research it should hold up. Worst case is just peel it off, but so far its been a few days and it is fine. I dont think the tips will get hot enough, according to my research it can take tempertures up to 200 degrees

It only holds up to 200°F so that exhaust will melt it off. Could even catch fire possibly. I certainly wouldn't risk it.

i think maybe the only acceptable use for plastidip...is the window trim.

"dipping" the whole car is cool too, as there are lots of different color choices now.

but doing accent pieces like the grille and emblem and door handles make the car look like a panda..

I dont think the exhaust tips get that hot at all, people have done it with no problems. I dont think it will be a problem, if it crack or melts I will take it off.

since they are a sleeve over tip usually...the contact with the actual exit of the muffler is limited to just a few points...don't think it gets that hot. You can normally even touch your tips (together, if you like).

Looks okay, was cheap...you're happy and no long bored...so I guess you're winning!

Thanks man. That is how I feel, for a 14 year old car that has almost 200k miles on it this is a perfect update, and if I want to remove it at any point I can, easily.

I might do the roof now too. Orignally I just wanted to do the rims, but then the chrome everywhere else started to look out of place so I did everything else to match and to me it looks better with the black wheels.

so, you're better off buying the spraying kit and dipping your whole car...

the dipped accent pieces really do make it look out of place.

The exhaust does get really hot at the tip if your driving hard... On my TL i melted through my OEM rear lip and put a big hole in the bumper when an exhaust hangar broke and made the tip touch the bumper. Also in my experience if the Dip gets hot a bunch of times it hardens and is a real b**** to get off... i would take it off the tips. I love the trim in black though.

plastidip

IMO dipped pieces will look better, with the Glossifier added on top.

Flat black is just Flat. lol.

I like the window trim a lot. If you like the rest then that's all that matters there.
BTW Irfanview is great for image manipulation.

At the end of the day, if you like the way it looks - leave it. None of the clowns who criticized you paid for the car, or the mod.

That just looks wrong... like somebody had a wreck and hasn't got around to painting the replacement parts.
