Mid Muffler Delete (01 CL-S)

This probably has been asked before but I need clarification. Anyone have an actual photo of the mid muffler or what it looks like? I keep searching but results coming up with the resonator and I don't want to touch that. Thanks!

Mid muffler, resonator same thing. It's the muffler looking thing before the pipe splits into 2 going to the rear mufflers. In my opinion don't delete it. Put in a magnaflow resonator in its place if you want more sound.

Thanks for the advice, I don't really want the sound loud, just want a little more rumble at idle, would the magna flow help more than the delete with a straight pipe?

my old CL I replaced the mid muffler with an 14" magnaflow universal and it had a G35 sound. But you can get rasp messing with the mid muffler. Your best bet is to have a shop weld on some magnaflow cans. 14382 has been a popular one for the CL.

Just to make sure, that is the mid muffler in the photo? Sorry for all the confusion.

Replace the mid muffler with 2 1/4 piping and replace the oem resonator with a dynomax high performance resonator to get rid of the "rasp" (Aka stage 3 exhaust). Then if you want, throw some of those magnaflow mufflers on and you should get pretty aggressive exhaust note. The mufflers are all personal preference but I really like the sound of the 11365 magnaflows. There are lots of videos of 2g and 3g tl with stage 3 exhaust on youtube which will be very similar in sound to the 2g cl.

This video is kind of what it would sound like if you deleted the mid muffler, resonator and rear mufflers with exhaust piping (Unsure of the size due to lack of information in video). Could still have stock mufflers also.

the 2nd gen CL/TL don't have "stage" exhaust mods. That's the 3rd gen TL and later models. We don't have a resonator and a mid muffler. the CL only has one mid muffler as shown in the pic above. The 2nd gen TL had a small resonator between the cat and mid muffler, but the CL didn't.

If you're on a budget, remove the mid muffler and replace it with the magna flow resonator. if you want it done proper, just have a shop replace the two rear mufflers with that of your choice.

Damn haha good to know! I thought the 2g tl would have had the exact same setup at the 2g cl.

Says it won't fit the car, but I'm sure if you have it welded it would fit in the place of the mid muffler

You could probably use any 2nd gen TL aftermarket exhaust on the CL, same for the 6th gen accord. There might only be slight length differences. If you go on oemacuraparts and look up the "exhaust pipe" for the TL you'll see the small resonator in the diagram.

it's just a universal part. 2.25" in/out so it will line up with your stock exhaust. You just need a shop to cut the old resonator off and weld the magnaflow in.

Agreed. I removed it & it was just too loud and raspy (almost like a Loud Civic) so I said 'oh hell to the no' & returned only to reinstall it. I eventually blew out my cat so I replaced it w/a Vibrant resonator. It sounds great now.

I am interested in hearing the before and after as well. I have been considering deleting the mid muffler on my CLS6 but after reading this, I might just replace it with an aftermarket one.. What kind of hp gains can you see from deleting and/or replacing it with an aftermarket one?

Does anyone know the length of the oem resonator? I cant decide between magnaflow, vibrant, or dynomax resonators. I am ordering the 14832 magnaflow mufflers sometime this week and want to pair it with a resonator to get a little more noise out of her.

I know the magna flow 10415 has a overall length of 20 inches I still haven't purchased it yet due to the lack of me getting the measurements of the stock mid muffler length...if I get them soon I'll go ahead and share it

The 14832's look fantastic but are pretty quiet still. After about 30 min of driving they are much louder but I am still thinking I will throw a dynomax resonator just to give it a little more grunt. I will post a video once it warms up and stops raining.

Anybody know the difference between the dynomax or magma flow resonators? Which one does what ?

I'm assuming the magma flow is goin to give it that muffled sound.
