Wow, that's a terrible design that I'm surprised didn't show itself during all the crash testing that they supposedly do before the car is put into production.

That's a really sad story.

I will say, my brother was in a crash in 2004 with a 2001 Acura Cl.. Both front air bags deployed and both passengers were incredibly unscathed.... The motor was touching the firewall

This does not apply to the 2001-2002 3.2 Cl I would guess? Cause Acura has never informed me of any recalls and it's been at the dlr many many times in its day.

01-02 airbags are single stage and should be a different design.

this is from 2014 for Canada: Honda expands airbag recall to Canada; replacing inflators on 700K vehicles
says it covers 2002 CL only.

Bought my car new in 2002 and just got my recall notice in mail from Acura last month. Hahahahaahah

Does this mean my Takata Harnesses are not cool anymore?

I originally had an 01 CL that was totaled in 2002. The airbags never deployed and I thought that was odd and they were faulty.

lol, That's why I had mine done in mid Jan, right after I installed your old stock steering wheel.

I called Acura right after reading this and made an appointment. First one available.

I called and they said it was the driver side that is recalled. Is that correct?

Finally first mod! lol

I just heard this on the radio yesterday. They gave some info and websites to check out.
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. Divisions
You enter your VIN and click check for recalls and it will tell you if your car is affected by the airbag problem.
You can go to acura.com but you'll just get an auto redirect to honda.com.

Most likely no. The inflator is on recall, not the airbag itself.

However, I wonder if the same type of inflator is used on the dashboard airbag. Makes you wonder does it not?

Yep. Get it changed. FYI my dealership told me a 3 month
wait. Got it in like 2 months.

Got both cars changed out last month.
2003 CLS 156k miles
2003 TLS 130k miles

What else the stealership said was wrong with each car:
2003 TLS
1. Parking light was on - corrective action - change the bulb.
2. Not a damn thing else - well maintained.

2003 CLS
1. They recommended timing belt and water pump (changed by me
3 months ago).
2. Front main seal oil leak and crankshaft oil seal-I think not- no way for them to know that without removing the timing cover- and it is not leaking.
3. Plugs - yep....just got the car....doing seafoam first. Crap Autolite plugs in it- threw a misfire code once actually.
4. Tires - I know.

Did it throw/show code for one cylinder or all 6?

Cylinder 3 only and the code hasn't returned since 11/20/14. I have the plugs but haven't replaced them yet as I have been busy.

Just had mine replaced today. Had to wait a few days for them to order in the new inflation kit but everything was taken care of in less than an hour this morning and they were nice enough to vacuum it and wash it. Service guy really loved it and kept commenting on how rare the 6-speed was.

Nice to know my airbag isn't going to kill me anymore.

Would be interesting to know if mine was part of the just 500 or so that are bad.

Guessing it'll be a few days before it'll appear in the search. Only see the driver side right now when searching by VIN.
