Almost lost my car to the flood
I live in Houston. Lots of flooding the other day. I went outside during the storm to check on things and found water past the door sills and water on the floor. The water was too deep to risk starting it up and driving up closer to the garage and higher ground. I got my floor jack & some stands out and got busy. Its hard jacking a car up in the dark... in water The water went up about another half a foot while I was working but I managed to feel around under water to find jacking points and get the car jacked up high enough to keep any more water from getting in if the water didn't rise any higher.
I put some sand bags around the doors of the house and went back inside and waited for daylight and hoped for the best. When daylight came and the water went down I went out to check. The carpet was soaked on one side and wet on the other. I put the key in the ignition and crossed my fingers. It started right up and ran normally. Then I started removing the seats and pulling the carpet up. Got everything totally dry and so far no smell Too much drama.
The only thing I've noticed is the SRS light is on now.

im in houston too.
not hating on you, but if you didnt start it up while the intake was submerged, then the engine WILL be totally fine. i noticed a lot of friends saying this exact thing...
if no water was sucked up the the engine via intake, you're totally fine.
HOWEVER, what concerns me is that the ECU is sitting low behind the carpet.
if the ECU gets wet, YOU WILL HAVE ELECTRICAL GREMLINS FOR THE REST OF THE CARS LIFE!
so. if you're having SRS lights, I would totally call the insurance company, granted you have full coverage...

I didn't know what the SRS was so I looked it up in the owners manual. It's the air bags obviously but it also has something to do with seat belt tension. While I had things apart I thought it would be great to route the seat belt through the loop in the lever that moves the seat back up. Wrong It got all knotted up and had a lot of tension.

right, maybe you touched the SRS airbag and seat belt sensor!
in an accident, the seat belt gets locked and throws the SRS light.
in order to reset the SRS/seatbelt light, an HDS is needed.
Here's to hoping no damage was done and its just the SRS sensor!
glad you made it out alive, I'm in the Sugar land area

I'm in west Hou... Spring Branch. After seeing pics of the rest of Houston (and Texas) we got it light. My sister lives one street over. Her house flooded. She had to have the carpet and floors pulled up and tossed.

Thanks. I did a SRS google search last night and half the hits were Honda/Acura Saw the paper clip method a lot. I'll try that. I saw several seat belt sensor problems. I still need to do the air bag replacement too.

Why would pulling the seats cause an SRS light? I was under the impression the SRS light won't come on unless the system detects a fault in one of the airbags or sensors, which wouldn't be caused by unplugging the seats, would it? I've pulled and replaced my drivers side seat three times now and my passenger seat once and haven't gotten a light yet.

FWIW I did the jumper wire reset and everything is fine now. I'm guessing it happened when I ran the seat belt thru the seat back lever and too much tension was on the seat belt.
