Acura Anti-freeze

I picked up antifreeze/coolant from my Acura dealer. And guess what it says now:
"Acura anti-freeze long life" (60K/5yr). Type 2 (supposed to be blue).

Now, I used to get Honda anti-freeze/coolant. The back of the bottle said "specially forumalated for Acura and Honda vehicles". also 60K/5yr.

Did they just change a label and sell the same stuff ?

you sure about mixing two together?

Its not only the color, the container says now "Long Life Acura anti-freeze". Before the same dealer used to sell container that said "Long Life Honda Anti-freeze" . I belive honda dealer still sells the same stuff.
Acura/Honda, should be the same fluid... seems like a marketing pitch, in reality the same stuff... both are type 2.

Be careful...

The car I had before the Acura used Dexcool (GM), It was a bright orange colour. I mixed it with the green stuff one time when my car was over-heating. It made this nasty brown colour.
I had to get the radiator flushed...

You got it flushed because of the color, or because it did something else?

thats becuase you can't mix Dexcool and green antifreeze. they are two different bases.

Timing belt. Tomorrow is Sunday and Honda/Acura is closed.
What other brands are safe ?

Any standard anti-freeze is fine. Honda/Acura don't require anything special like many GMs do. All anti-freeze should say it's fine for 60k miles. Mileage isn't really the worry. For those that put lesser than normal mileage on their car, they'll want to flush it every couple years. Time is what will eat away at those parts, not mileage.

because our block is aluminium, the only requirement is to be Silicate and phosphate free.

Acura dealer told me that the blue stuff is no different than the green stuff and can be mixed together Honda sells their premixed stuff for $20... I can buy the normal green stuff non mixed for less than half of that...
