My front tires have been rolling over more than I'd prefer. Used pyrometer and upped front pressure from 32 to 34.5. Rear tires don't have much grip left, so lowered pressures from 36.5 to 34.
Got a new viewing angle. Tried to get tire lifting, but hard to tell. This was my last run and would have been fastest at 54.9, but got called for 2 cones. Watched video and can't see any cones being hit. Do you guys notice any?

Nice drive and the car sounds great. I did not see any cones that appeared to be hit. The only visible cones on their sides appear to have been set up that way in support of the cone next to it at certain points of the course ; however, there were no cones 'flying' as a result of a hit.

Quaife makes quicker steering racks for crx, civic, and integra. I even saw someone offers quicker rack for original nsx. If you think cl steering is slow, original NSX is even worse.

Yea I didn't see any cones even move let alone be knocked over. Didn't feel like I hit any. Might have gotten screwed out of fastest run, but would have still finished 2nd.

That is main thing holding me back is steering ratio. Would need to swap to a faster rack or use a steering quickener. Have no experience with this so not sure where to start. The newer honda and Acura have quicker ratios but are all electric. Can a newer rack be converted to hydraulic? Would I have to convert to electric. Doubt there is any plug and play option.

Thanks. The cones on their sides are pointer cones telling you which side to go around.

Interesting. I don't think there is any way to convert an electronic rack to hydraulic. They don't hold fluid. I wonder how hard it would be to convert to EPS. Seems like there would be a lot of sensors needed that you don't have... Are you stuck replacing the whole rack?
I just googled steering quickener because I have never heard of such a thing. That's the ticket!!! do it!

Might have noticed different steering wheel in my latest videos.
NOS Momo Race Blue Anodized 320MM. This is lightest leather Momo wheel at 2.7 lbs. It has a slight dish also.
Still trying to decide on steering wheels. Not really sure what size to use. Then whether leather or suede. Suede is too grippy with gloves for autocross. Then whether to use gloves or not. Last but not least, how far from me steering wheel is.
Think will try a different steering wheel for next autocross and re-install quick release to move wheel closer.

Of course the CL and J Series are left off the category list :

1st Place Tsx
1st Place Accord Gen 1-4
1st Place Accord Gen 5-7
1st Place Accord Gen 8

1st Place Integra Gen 1-2
1st Place Integra Gen 3-4
Best K series swap
Best B series swap
Best H series swap
Best D series swap
Best "Other" Honda/Acura

If I put my Parts and work into any car besides CL, could actually win awards. The fact it is a CL makes it nearly impossible.

Momo Jackie Stewart Signature Steering Wheel
Tomorrow is last Schaumburg autocross this year. Decided to re-install quick release and mounted up my Jackie Stewart Steering Wheel for the first time.
This link has good info on Momo Signature Steering Wheels: MoMo Signature steering wheels Overview - Pelican Parts Technical BBS
According to that site the stamp on my wheel should mean it was made in 1970-1972. I would rate the wheel condition 9/10. It is 350MM with nice thick leather. Grip is thicker than other Momo wheels. Love the quality and feel of the older leather wheels.
Rear Bulk Head Gusset Swiss Cheesed
Since I am unsure whether these help stiffen the chassis with roll bar, decided to remove some weight. They are rather heavy stamped steel.

Ended up 2nd in class behind a Lotus. Believe it was Lotus Exige S or Exige S 240. Not sure exact model, but no chance of really beating that car with good driver. Thing is mid-engine, rwd, supercharged(low-end power), and weighs only 2000 lbs.
Last few events only had steering wheel attached to short hub. This was a mistake. It made it harder to control steering wheel and required more force to turn wheel. Felt much better with quick release and steering wheel closer.
Think I might prefer a 350mm steering wheel but still unsure. It seems to require less effort to fling the wheel around so i can be more precise/smooth.
Fastest Run of Day
One negative about these tight, slow, and technical courses is that I barely even get into vtec.
Have a few plans for next year to make car faster.
- Running track brake pads was a mistake for autocross. For next year want to run street or autocross pads that don't require as much heat.
- Considering most of the run/runs is below 5k rpm, having IM with butterfly delete is probably slowing me down in acceleration zones after a tight corner. 09 TL IM with butterfly should make more low end torque and also remove around 10 lbs. Won't have shiny plenums, but all I care about really is being faster.
- Install aftermarket clutch and flywheel. Stock clutch doesn't seem to grab that well. Flywheel should save almost 30 lbs.
- More weight savings
- Maybe wider front tires and more grippy tires in rear. Maybe more rear camber also.
If anyone has other suggestions let me know.

maybe it was just an easier track, but your steering looked way more confident in that vid. Nice work.
The exige is like a gokart. getting anywhere near it is pretty decent.

Nice job Brian. Thats awesome, would have been first if it weren't for that lotus.
Any reactions/comments this race? Always curious to hear what others have to say about the car lol

Diffuser is sitting in my garage atm in pieces. Been planning on re-working it soon, plus if you drive it on street it just collects thousands of rocks and pebbles.
Most serious autocrossers tend to run stock class and only do minor modding. That is easiest way to be competitive and only requires money and driving skill.
There are really only 1 or 2 cars per class that can even be competitive.
My focus is just making car faster and improving my driving skill.

Engine Bay Fusebox Bracket Swiss-Cheesed
Funny thing is that I had 2 people mention today to others at autocross about my swiss-cheesing and using a CNC machine to do it. They just assumed a machine did all the work, when I did it all by hand with a hand-held drill, Dremel, and sandpaper. I didn't bother to mention to them it was done by hand though.

TSSCC Autocross Lake County Fairgrounds 9/4/16
Best time of 45.032
Never got brakes up to temp and rear tires are shot, but there are always excuses.
Left more footage on video so you can see before and after the run. For me this is a more open course with less cones, but SCCA guys were calling it a tight course. Steering isn't as much of an issue on this course, but first tight slalom can be handful. Should have been faster, let the car down(typical for me).
After PAX, ended up 8th out of 15 drivers in "Tire Limited" Class. These are cars on street tires, but too modified to be in street classes. Class includes Street Prepared, Street Modified, and Prepared. I am in Prepared(XP) and have highest PAX penalty in class. On "raw" times alone would have ended up 4th out of 15 drivers(behind a 2.5L swapped NC Miata, Turbo NC Miata, and E36 M3.)

It sucks how they class you but that is impressive none the less! Keep it up Brian!
Are you still running the lower temp thermostat and fan switch? If so, does it give trouble in the winter with not holding enough temp?
Also what group do you posts in on Facebook?

Yeah it sucks that a miata can swap in any engine, ecu, etc and it be less of a penalty than me removing weight. Even if miata swaps in a v8 it will still be lighter than me.
They have a fwd specific class within SM class, but once you go to prepared anything goes. Not many fwd cars can be competitive besides maybe a sub 1900 lb CRX.
Still running the Mugen cooling mods. I have no issues, but my car doesn't sit outside overnight.
Just post on my personal Facebook page open to public. My posts on here are better though.

Prepared (XP) Tire Limited
Seems like this is just a regional class, but that is fine by me.
Thinking about making some changes before last autocross events of year Oct 22-23. That is a ways off, so have some time.
Tempted to remove bumper beams and replace steel tow hooks with tow straps. Could also remove passenger seat and put on new rear tires and add more rear camber. Can install some of my Swiss-Cheesed parts.

im intrigued by your swiss cheese tactics. i love it. i dont/wouldnt have the patience for that.
on the focus RS i wasnt impressed. i pdi'd one the other day and i took it around the block. didnt feel any faster than a st. definitely not for 50k.
