I was getting into me 2011 tax wagon this morning, and noticed the color keyed trim piece on the exterior driver side a-pillar by the windshield. Wtf, the car is only a little more than a year old!

Called my service rep, and he said bring it in and they will take a look at it. He said that they had to replace them on some models...

I hope they fix both sides so I don't have to come back if the other side starts coming loose...

 

Yep, the top of mine popped loose after about 6 months of having it. Its not too noticeable from far away. Ive been meaning to epoxy it back down but haven't ever gotten around to it.

 

Both of mine were replaced under warranty.

 

Im getting mine replaced under warranty. Not sure you should epoxy it on.... it looks like its part of the gasketing around the windshield....

 

Just the very top has come loose. Pulling it back it looks like one of the clips or whatever was holding it in place came unglued or broken. I'll check it out more in detail before I epoxy it back. Really don't want to go to the dealership, its about 30 minutes away. Ill take some pictures today after work if I remember.

 

Agreed. It would be different if it came glued on and the glue just gave up, but using epoxy instead of the original clips is a very bad idea.

 

I used 3M until I get it replaced

 

My dealership is 5min away from my office so its not a problem... give your service rep a call, send pics maybe they can order parts if needed and do it the next time you service your car.

Lol, I noticed a soft buzzing/hum when I drive at highway speed, maybe this is what was causing it... It sounded like it was coming from that area, but I thought it was something on the inside... hopefully this resolves it...

My service rep said this is a known issue...

 

Odd. this was a known issue back on the 09/10 ones...supposedly it was fixed but i guess not?

I didn't notice before, but this piece is actually holding a strip of rubber against the windshield. It's been driven through several storms on the freeway and water has never been a problem. The rubber strip is a little less than 1/4" off the windshield at the very top (on the side you cant see in the picture). Maybe I will end up getting it replaced some day.

 

I have a 2011 as well. No problems with those two pieces yet, but I do wonder why Honda designed the windshield that way. No other car that I've had is so needlessly complicated. It basically means that anytime you need a windshield replacement, you are also replacing those panels. I hope Honda has millions of spare parts. As the Euro/JDM Accords and TSXs age and require windshield replacements (or just have these things pop off like they ae obviously prone to do), we will be making a run on these replacement parts.

Perhaps the aftermarket will come up with a better part.

 

opb that's exactly what happened with my 2009, except the entire piece would come off at least half way down the trim. if i stuck my hand out the window and pushed it down, it would fit back in. going anywhere 40mph or higher and u can hear it go pop and it'll pop back out. had to leave my car at the dealership for 2 days cuz they supposedly fixed it once but when he brought it out it wasn't so they had to keep it another day. second time was fine but such a hassle for me to keep driving back and forth in traffic just to not get my car back.

 

That sounds lame. I hope mine doesn't come any more undone. I'll bring it in to my dealership in the next month or so.

 

Many cars have some sort of trim piece there to cover the side molding of the windshield. That piece is intended to be removed an re-used - not replaced along with the windshield.

In this case, it appears as if the design or the part is faulty.

 

On my 2010 V6, the passenger side one started coming loose from the top. I ended up pulling it out, breaking the plastic retainers at the same time. I used 3M weatherstrip adhesive on the clips to glue it back in place and it has been solid since.

 

Yup, had the driver side piece replaced once, then it came loose again about six months later. They went ahead and did both sides without question that time. We'll see how long it lasts.

TSB 12-018 is a "product update" for 2009 MY cars. In other words, 2009 models are getting a proactive fix. However, those of us with 2010+ models don't get this "product update" and are still having the problem.

<rant> I've been frustrated lately with Honda/Acura's "product updates" that genuinely don't cover all affected models. I was recently burned by the rear brake pad wear issue as well. The dealer, on their own, offered to eat the cost of labor because corporate didn't want to have anything to do with fixing it (my VIN was just outside the VIN range of the class action settlement). </rant>

 

i had the same issue with my 2010, but mine happened when i had to have my windshield replaced, the guy who put the windshield on glued it back with some crap because he broke the clips. I only noticed 2 months later when the glue didnt hold it down and by then the windshield company wouldnt do a thing. so i bought some epoxy and glued it myself and its been good for over a year now.

 

So may i ask what this epoxy you are using? I have an 2009 and it just started to lift off the windshield. Did anyone have a problem with water seeping into the cabin itself?

 

I have a 2009 Acura TSX purchased in late 2014. Acura replaced the windshield moldings / trim on both sides just prior to my ownership. They delivered the car with masking tape on holding the molding down to ensure the adhesive dried.

By then end of 2015, the trims started peeling off once again. The dealer disputed it was there issue and wanted to charge me for replacement as it was out of warranty (over 12,000 mi on the repair.) After a call to Acura directly, the dealer worked out the issue and replaced the trim (actually they did it three times during the repair as they broke the windshield and damaged my frame.)

Once again, this summer, the repair is failing. This would be the fifth time for the repair, and I don't trust this dealer's ability to perform the repair properly.

I'm curious if there are others that have had this problem - especially if reoccurring problem. Maybe I'll attempt the repair myself.

 

Same on my 2013. Driver side came loose and my the noise was infuriating. Have only had to have it replaced once so far.

 

Replacement is not needed unless it's really broken. Just use 3M weatherstrip adhesive with proper surface prep and cure time, and it will be good to go for 3 or 4 more years.

 

It's a known issue and it happened to my 2012 TSX Wagon around 27k miles / 3 years. The Acura dealer fixed it at no charge. But I'm a little bit disappointed in Acura. It's a 2nd gen afterall, and a premium brand too. But I get it; premium / luxury brands do not equal minimal maintenance.

 

Absolutely - just ask owners of Audi, Benz, Jag, Landrover, etc.

 

Removed trim slowly and carefully. I used a heat gun which I would not recommend, I had to reform some of the trim afterward. Just move slow and cautious as you pull off the trim.

I noted that the dealer did not follow the service bulletin. They only applied the adhesive to the clip area.

After thoroughly cleaning the channel, I reattached the clips, let them dry, then loaded up the channel with adhesive. Put loads of pressure on each clip (I didn't hear a click from the top clip.) Taped it down for three days. All good now.

• 3M 08008 Black Super Weatherstrip Adhesive Tube - 5 oz.
• 3M 03618 Adhesive Remover - 12 oz.

 

Did you bring it to the dealership to get it replaced? how much did it cost? I'm finally having that problem now on the driver side of my 2012 TSX. I called the dealer and the service rep couldn't give me an estimate and wanted me to bring it in. I'm scared to drive it on the freeway cause it starts to flap if I drive above 35 mph.

 

That's how my 2012 TSX is now. First it was lifting a little on the driver side but not to the point where it was popping off. I didn't think it would do that until recently while I was driving on the freeway. I called the dealer, they want me to bring it in but like you said about driving above 40 mph, it comes loose and starts flapping. The dealership is 20 mins away by freeway. My brother said to glue it, lol. I don't think I want to do that. Not sure if I should just bring it to a nearby shop to fix it. What do you think?
